To pair with Arvidsson, we go back to the well with Tage Thompson after the Buffalo Sabres center cashed for us in Monday’s edition while drawing another back line who struggles in coverage. Viktor Arvidsson (Devils vs. Red Wings) Goal Odds

After underwhelming in his debut with the Detroit Red Wings, Viktor Arvidsson was able to quickly shake off the rust, scoring three Goals in his last four outings. During that span, Arvidsson has been aggressive in his efforts of pressuring the net, averaging 0.50 Expected Goals per game.

Heading into Tuesday night’s matchup against the New Jersey Devils, Arvidsson will have a great opportunity to get back on the sheet by attacking a back line who has stumbled down to the bottom half of the board in Expected Goals Against in All Situations. Even with Jake Allen giving up just 2.65 Goals Against per game, playing on the second half of a back-to-back will lead to sluggish movements, making it difficult to match the Red Wings output for the full duration of the contest.

In 5-on-4 Situations, Arvidsson is joined by Alex DeBrincat and Mortiz Seider, forcing opposing back lines to pull away from the net in an attempt to wall off the duo’s Shots on Goal from the blue line. If Nico Daws gets the start in net for the Devils instead of Allen, add more to your position.

Tage Thompson (Sabres vs. Canadiens) Goal Odds

Since the start of the regular season, Tage Thompson has been the engine that drives the Sabres offense, comfortably leading the team in Expected Goals while generating 5.8 Shots on Goal per game.

In a rematch of last year’s playoff series against the Montreal Canadiens, Thompson will be able to build on his momentum by taking advantage of a back line who resides in the bottom five in Expected Goals Against From High Danger Shots. Especially with Jakub Dobes struggling to mask the Canadiens lack of production on defense with his play in net, averaging 4.44 Goals Against per game and a .857 Save Percentage in three starts.

When in the Power Play, positive regression is looming large over Thompson who has taken a slight step back in Expected Goals, leading to a bump in his usage rate which will increase his chances of finding the back of the net.

Sebastian Aho (Hurricanes vs. Capitals) Goal Odds

Even with Seth Jarvis out of the lineup, the Carolina Hurricanes have been able to brush aside regression, leading the league in Expected Goals For. Sebastian Aho has played a major role in the Hurricanes success, generating 0.47 Expected Goals while averaging nearly two Points per game.

In a favorable matchup against the Washington Capitals, Aho will be able to continue to light the lamp while weaving the puck through a back line who struggles to defend the net per their near dead last mark in Expected Goals Against. When isolated, Logan Thompson will be forced to scramble across the crease due the Hurricanes versatility on offense, creating wider shooting lanes for Aho to exploit.

Aho has also been productive in the Hurricanes first Power Play unit,  averaging 0.22 Expected Goals per penalty. With Andrei Svechnikov forcing the Capitals to shade their coverage towards the outside, Aho will have more room in the middle to operate, improving the quality of his Shots on Goal.
