The Pick: Falcons 23, Ravens 20

We’ll try the Under based on Atlanta’s home data against AFC teams, along with head-to-head trends.

Game Betting Analysis

While it’s hard to take the Under based on the teams playing, the data is pointing towards it – so let’s start there. The Under has hit in three straight meetings between these clubs, while Baltimore will be without starting quarterback Lamar Jackson, meaning odds are points will be tough to come by for the Ravens offense. Atlanta has only played one home game this season, but it saw 37 total points to go Under (vs. Carolina) in a game Atlanta was playing a backup quarterback, much like Baltimore will be. The big trend that has our attention, though, is Atlanta hitting the Under in a remarkable 10 of 11 home games against the AFC. The spread worries us as well, with Atlanta dropped the spread in five of six home games while losing outright in eight of nine games when facing an AFC team on a winning streak. So we take Baltimore, then? Well, the Ravens have failed to cover the spread in seven straight games off a win. The Falcons’ Under trend at home is the one we’ll get behind.

Deciding Factor: Atlanta’s Surging Ground Game vs. a Lamar Jackson-less Ravens Offense

The Falcons are riding real momentum into this one, having won two straight, including a 45-24 blowout of the Saints in Week 4 in which Atlanta ran for 205 yards and five touchdowns as a team. Bijan Robinson and Drake London have been the engine of that stretch, combining for an eye-popping 650 scrimmage yards over the Falcons’ last two games, and Atlanta gets to carry that form into a home game against a Ravens defense that enters the season with real questions: Baltimore ranked 28th in pressure rate and 30th in sacks a year ago, Nnamdi Madubuike’s status up front remains uncertain coming off a serious neck injury, and the signing of Trey Hendrickson was specifically meant to address a pass rush that struggled to get home. A Falcons offense that’s humming on the ground, behind an explosive receiver and a bell-cow back, is exactly the kind of attack built to expose a defense still sorting out its front seven.

The Ravens, meanwhile, are walking into this one without their best player. Lamar Jackson sprained his ankle in last week’s 24-18 win over the Titans and is considered unlikely to play, leaving Baltimore with a passing attack through four games that posted a 119.6 rating, 70.8% completion rate, and six touchdowns to just one interception — numbers that evaporate with Tyler Huntley under center instead. Huntley is 5-7 as a starter for this franchise, and the one meaningful data point from last week was thin by necessity: 8-of-9 for just 63 yards in relief, nowhere near enough of a sample to know what Atlanta is actually facing, but enough to know Baltimore loses the element that makes Jackson nearly impossible to defend, his ability to escape pressure and turn a broken play into a chunk gain with his legs. If Derrick Henry, who ran for 73 yards and a score on 23 carries last week, can control the clock and keep this game on the ground, and Baltimore’s defense tightens up enough to slow Robinson and London even without its full pass rush healthy, the Ravens still have a real path to protecting Huntley and stealing a road win. If Atlanta’s ground game keeps rolling the way it has the last two weeks, a one-dimensional Ravens offense won’t have the answers to keep pace.
