Minnesota Timberwolves vs. San Antonio Spurs Game 5 Preview, Picks & Odds for Tuesday, May 12, 2026
Game 5 between the Minnesota Timberwolves (2-2) and San Antonio Spurs (2-2) is set for 8 p.m. Eastern on NBC. Victor Wembamyama avoided suspension (and somehow a fine) after throwing a vicious elbow that led to his ejection from Game 4, so the Spurs have their superstar back for this pivotal contest. De’Aaron Fox is questionable to play due to ankle soreness, though.
Timberwolves vs. Spurs Betting Analysis
Anthony Edwards saved Game 4 by scoring 16 points in the fourth quarter. He is by far Minnesota’s best clutch time player, as the rest of the roster often struggles to create quality looks during the final few minutes. It’s especially true of Julius Randle, who is averaging 14.3 points and 4.5 turnovers per game on a 37 FG% this series. Randle has to improve his efficiency and decision making for Minnesota to advance.
On the other hand, Naz Reid has been sensational. He’s averaging close to a double-double on 52/47/71 shooting splits, and Minnesota has scored 120.6 points per 100 possessions with Reid on the court this series. His perimeter shooting opens up the court and prevents San Antonio’s bigs from camping inside the paint.
Dylan Harper has also impressed and is coming off a 24-point performance in Game 4. The rookie looks poised while handling the basketball against Minnesota’s on-ball pressure and thrives at generating paint touches. Harper has yet to crack the 30 minute barrier against the Wolves, but it wouldn’t be surprising if he did in Game 5 or Game 6.
Can De’Aaron Fox bounce back? The 2x All-Star is getting smothered by Jaden McDaniels’ length and physicality. San Antonio acquired him to make clutch shots and guide the non-Wembanyama minutes, but Fox has not delivered so far in this series.
The best bet for Game 5 is taking Julian Champagnie to record at least 15 points plus rebounds plus assists. He can take advantage of San Antonio’s paint pressure by knocking down catch-and-shoot triples, and Champagnie has also been active as a rebounder and passer. Overall, he has produced 16, 17, 21, and 24 PRAs through four games.
