I’m not foolish enough to fade Chestnut for his rebirth on the Independence Day stage, but I’m willing to wager on Bertoletti to ingest the most franks without Chestnut’s tally included. DraftKings Sportsbook lists him as the -140 odds-on favorite. His odds opened at +170, so the betting market is bullish that Bertoletti will sustain his success.

Think of this bet like the “without (Scottie) Scheffler” market among golf odds. James Webb’s total dogs are set at 50.5, and Wehry’s are 47.5.

After guzzling a personal-best 58 hot dogs in 2024, the defending champion has seen his number rise from over/under 48.5 to 53.5, with juice toward the over. I believe there’s a slightly bigger separation between Bertoletti and the non-Chestnut participants than the odds imply.

Chestnut’s record is 76 hot dogs eaten on July 4, 2021. As noted, I won’t have any action on him one way or another.

Women’s Hot Dog Picks & Predictions: Evaluating Sudo’s Prospects

Sudo, who set the women’s record with 51 hot dogs last year, is such an imposing competitive eater that no sportsbook is offering odds for her to win the competition.

Per the odds table, her total is set at 46.5 after opening at 45.5. Sudo will undoubtedly have extra motivation with Chestnut’s back in the mix, knowing there’s a larger audience watching than possibly ever before. For my money, the psychological aspect of handicapping isn’t discussed enough, especially when it comes to digesting food.

While Sudo is a beast, she may rev herself up too much to handle a substantial number of hot dogs. I’ll have a small bet on her going under the total with this angle in mind.
