Can San Antonio force a Game 7? Or will Oklahoma City reach the NBA Finals again?
Thunder vs. Spurs Betting Analysis
After scoring a measly 82 points in Game 4, the Thunder’s offense roared back to life in Game 5 to the tune of 127 points. Oklahoma City shot 43.8% from beyond the arc and racked up 20 points off turnovers and 33 made free throws.
Alex Caruso and Jared McCain combined for 42 points on 12-for-29 shooting from the field. They made timely buckets and surrounded Shai Gilgeous-Alexander with much-needed shot making. Cason Wallace also deserves his flowers, as the Kentucky product contributed seven points, five assists, four rebounds, and four stocks. He hounded San Antonio’s ball handlers and haunted passing lanes. Oklahoma City wound up winning his 31 minutes by 29 points.
On the flip side, Victor Wembanyama had his worst playoff game of his young career. He went 4-for-15 from the field and often settled for deep jumpers rather than putting his head down and matching Isaiah Hartenstein’s physicality. Wembanyama’s defense was also less effective than usual because Mark Daigneault did not let him sit as a weakside rim protector. Overall, the Thunder were +8 during Wembanyama’s minutes, which makes it the first time that the Spurs have lost his minutes during a playoff game (min. 20 minutes played).
Julian Champagnie erupted for 22 points, eight rebounds, and three steals. He was phenomenal as a glue piece, but it was a wasted performance unfortunately because San Antonio’s stars struggled mightily. The Spurs need Champagnie to stay hot from beyond the arc in Game 6.
The best bet for Game 6 is taking Isaiah Hartenstein to record at least 12 rebounds plus assists. The veteran has been crucial on the glass for Oklahoma City, and his passing out of dribble handoffs leads to good looks for his teammates. Excluding Game 1 because Daigneault only played him 12 minutes before abandoning the strategy moving forward, Hartenstein has logged 10, 12, 16, and 19 RAs.
