THE FIELD AT A GLANCE
Just 142 miles southeast of Augusta, it’s not asking too much for players to stick around after the Masters. While some may battle a mental hangover, the last five winners of this event did so after competing at the Masters. If Scottie Scheffler could win the Masters and RBC Heritage in successive weeks in 2024 (while expecting his first child), the rest of the field should carry no “hangover” excuse to Harbour Town.
With its newfound signature event status, this field of 82 will be one of the strongest and most concentrated in RBC Heritage history. Twenty-six of the OWGR top-30 players will tee up in Harbour Town this week, with Rory McIlroy and Hideki Matsuyama as the only eligible PGA Tour players inside the top 30 who are absent. This is the second consecutive year each player has elected to skip this Signature Event.
There will be no open qualifying, but four final spots in the field remain open until after the Masters. Those are reserved for Sponsor’s Invitations and the winner of the Masters, if not already qualified. Tony Finau and Max Homa have received Sponsor’s invites as of Sunday morning.
This event typically drew late withdrawals after the Masters weighed in. Still, Scottie Scheffler, Cameron Young, Xander Schauffele, and Ludvig Aberg are expected to highlight the field.
Justin Thomas returns as champion after outlasting Andrew Novak in a playoff last year. Scottie Scheffler, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Jordan Spieth will join him as past champions in this week’s field.
INTRODUCTION TO HARBOUR TOWN GOLF LINKS
Harbour Town is perhaps the most straightforward course to handicap on the PGA Tour. A clear trend has dominated: drive it straight, strike your mid-irons at an elite level, and scramble well around the greens.
Historically, against comparatively weaker fields, this formula opened contention up to more grizzled veterans and essentially removed any distance advantage. The last 10 winners averaged 32 years old, with six winning at 35-plus. No winners checked in under the age of 27.
Course fit prevails over recent form this week. Experience at Harbour Town and other comparable positional courses may provide a distinct advantage over raw ball striking ability.
EVENT HISTORY AND COURSE COMPS
Players who routinely performed best at the RBC Heritage should help point to who contends this week. Its newfound status as a signature event does add a concentration of talent this tournament had not seen before 2023. With such a different caliber of field in store this week, I’m taking any past results at the RBC Heritage with a grain of salt.
Looking at recent course history, 18 players have multiple T15 finishes over the last five years: Patrick Cantlay, Collin Morikawa, Scottie Scheffler, Justin Thomas, Tommy Fleetwood, Sahith Theegala, Russell Henley, Shane Lowry, Matt Fitzpatrick, Maverick McNealy, Jordan Spieth, Sam Burns, JT Poston, Sepp Straka, Daniel Berger, Sungjae Im, Corey Conners, and Brian Harman.
Moreover, 8 players made the cut (or finished top-40 in no cut years) in each appearance over the last five years (min. three starts): Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth, Daniel Berger, Sungjae Im, Tony Finau, Justin Thomas, and Brian Harman.
The Big 4: Scheffler, Fitzpatrick, Spieth, and Cantlay
There is a clear four-headed monster of elite talents with excellent course history at Harbour Town. All three have won or found themselves in a playoff over the last three years. Cantlay has been a constant in the previous four, but he is still searching for his first career RBC Heritage win this week, with three top-3 finishes over his last four appearances at this event.
You’ll hear the narrative on repeat that Harbour Town is Matt Fitzpatrick’s favorite place in the world. He grew up playing golf here on holiday, and it’s the reason he still keeps the signature lighthouse head cover in his bag.
Looking at total strokes gained at Harbour Town over the last 10 years, the top 10 players in course history are Patrick Cantlay, JT Poston, Scottie Scheffler, Daniel Berger, Brian Harman, Justin Thomas, Matt Fitzpatrick, Russell Henley, Alex Noren, and Tommy Fleetwood.
Course Comps
We now know this type of course: short, positional, target golf. It’s a rare opportunity for shorter hitters to contend, and the type of course where Webb Simpson archetypes repeatedly find success.
With so many repeat names on the RBC Heritage leaderboard over the years — and a persistent need for driving accuracy and proximity from 125-200 – there is a particular profile of a player who can lean on their precise ball striking for consistency here. However, with so many new faces in this year’s field, comp course history will prove to be an even stronger indicator of success than course history itself.
Pete Dye courses tend to mimic a consistent design philosophy that rewards a tactical approach off the tee and penalizes misfires on approach. Of Pete Dye’s designs, TPC Sawgrass, TPC River Highlands, and Stadium Course serve as the top Dye comps to Harbour Town.
Courses that force the field to take the driver out of their hands and reward accuracy off the tee and on approach should also serve as excellent comp reference points. Pebble Beach, Colonial CC, Waialae CC, Sedgefield CC, Sea Island Resort, and El Camaleon each embody those characteristics well.
Combine performance across this long list of shorter, positional comp courses together, and the top 10 players in comp course history from this week’s field include Scottie Scheffler, Justin Thomas, Ludvig Aberg, Xander Schauffele, Patrick Cantlay, Tommy Fleetwood, Russell Henley, Sepp Straka, Collin Morikawa, and Jason Day.

The executive summary to approaching RBC Heritage odds suggests refining your list to elite players in SG: APP, SG: ARG, and fairways gained. It has been that cut-and-dry formula to predict success at this event. Just six players rate out of the top 30 in SG: APP & SG: ARG and above-average in fairways gained: Russell Henley, Matt Fitzpatrick, Si Woo Kim, Cameron Young, Nick Taylor, and Ryo Hisatsune.
Taking a deeper dive into each of the key stats this week, the top 10 players in SG: APP, the most critical stat of the week, are Collin Morikawa, Si Woo Kim, Nicolai Hojgaard, Ryan Gerard, Kurt Kitayama, Viktor Hovland, Akshay Bhatia, Daniel Berger, Corey Conners, and Austin Smotherman.
Unique to Harbour Town, it’s rare to find many approaches beyond 200 yards. Only 20% of shots came from this range in 2026. The 125-200 yard range has been the sweet spot in this event, with a concentration of about 30% of shots coming from 175-200 yards. The top 10 players in weighted proximity from 125-200 yards are Scottie Scheffler, Corey Conners, Collin Morikawa, Viktor Hovland, Kurt Kitayama, Si Woo Kim, Sepp Straka, JT Poston, JJ Spaun, and Shane Lowry.
Small Greens, Easy Fairways
With these greens being among the smallest on tour, short game proves increasingly important to scramble for pars on errant approaches. The top 10 players in weighted SG: ARG & Scrambling are Harry Hall, Andrew Putnam, Ben Griffin, Tommy Fleetwood, Ludvig Aberg, Ricky Castillo, Maverick McNealy, Russell Henley, Patrick Cantlay, and Viktor Hovland.
It’s not entirely necessary to model fairways gained this week. The field should inherently find more accuracy when clubbing down for these forced layups. Instead, I’m looking to SG: ball striking on courses under 7,200 yards to identify the best players at clubbing down on positional courses. The top 10 in this category are Scottie Scheffler, Sepp Straka, Si Woo Kim, Austin Smotherman, Collin Morikawa, Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry, Patrick Cantlay, Russell Henley, and Justin Thomas.
Correlation at Harbour Town
Looking at the correlation charts this week, we see a notable dip in the importance of SG: OTT and P4: 450-500 relative to the tour average. Driving Distance and Prox 200+ are also rated as the two least correlated stats with success for this event. Instead, P4: 400-450, SG: Short Game / SG: ARG, and SG: APP climb this week.
Seven players in the field rank above average in each of the above key stat categories: Tommy Fleetwood, Collin Morikawa, Russell Henley, Viktor Hovland, Sudarshan Yellamaraju, Maverick McNealy, and Matt Fitzpatrick.
PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: XANDER SCHAUFFELE
Gone are the days of Satoshi Kodaira, CT Pan, and Wesley Bryan winning the RBC Heritage. With Justin Thomas, Scottie Scheffler, Jordan Spieth, and Matt Fitzpatrick winning the last four contests, the identity of this event has changed from a journeyman plodder’s paradise to a stage for superstars. Xander Schauffele would be a sensible player to continue that trend in 2026.
When I assess the board for the week ahead, I’m less concerned about finding the marksmen who sacrifice power for accuracy off-the-tee. Yes, this is one of the few opportunities each season for the likes of Brian Harman, Aaron Rai, and Andrew Putnam to compete in an approach-fest. But with a higher purse on the line, I want to back players who have a proven track record on the biggest stages, and who carry an elite all-around game with them to Harbour Town.
We are starting to see longer hitters prevail on these shorter, positional courses, as players like Xander will still have wedges in hand to these accessible greens. Xander ranks top-10 in SG: TOT (L36), Proximity 125-200, SG: T2G, SG: Ball Striking, and Comp Course History. He’s proven he can keep the pedal down after Masters week as well, finishing T18, T18, and 4th over his last three appearances at the RBC Heritage.
With four top-15 finishes over his last five starts, Xander’s game is trending towards snatching his second PGA Tour win over his last 10 starts.
2026 RBC HERITAGE ODDS: DFS PLAYER POOL
With all the course-fit profiles in mind, I’m leaning early toward the below player pool. I’m also looking their way in the 2026 RBC Heritage odds. I’ve broken the list by projected pricing/odds tier for DraftKings.
RBC HERITAGE MODEL RESULTS & BREAKDOWN
In my model this week, I’m emphasizing SG: APP, Comp Course History, prox: 125-200, SG: ball striking (<7,200-yard courses), SG: APP, and SG: T2G (L12 rounds), followed by a more balanced mix of fairways gained, SG: ARG, scrambling, SG: P (L36, Bermuda), and GIRs gained.
In a bit of a surprise, Scottie Scheffler is not the No. 1 player in my model in this Signature Event. That honor instead falls upon Russell Henley. The marksman ranks 1st in the field in Driving Accuracy and top-10 in Scrambling, SG: Putting (Bermuda), SG: Ball Striking (Short Courses), and Proximity 125-200.
After Henley, my model’s top 10 is rounded out by Scottie Scheffler, Matt Fitzpatrick, Collin Morikawa, Tommy Fleetwood, Si Woo Kim, Xander Schauffele, Ludvig Aberg, Patrick Cantlay, and Sudarshan Yellamaraju.
