Can the Wolves tie the series at home and force a Game 7?
Spurs vs. Timberwolves Betting Analysis
San Antonio cruised to a dominant Game 5 win behind Victor Wembanyama’s 27 points, 17 rebounds, five assists and three blocks. Minnesota’s defense had no answers for an aggressive Wembanyama, who attacked the basket with intent. The Spurs now own a +11.3 net rating through five games with him on the court.
Meanwhile, Keldon Johnson had his first big game of the playoffs. The Sixth Man of the Year contributed 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting off the bench and also chipped in three stocks. It’s surprising that Game 5 was Johnson’s first eruption of the series because he’s strong enough to bulldoze through Minnesota’s physical defense.
Anthony Edwards is doing everything in his power to lead the Wolves to an upset, but he’s not receiving enough offensive help. Julius Randle is averaging 14.8 points on 36/21/75 shooting splits and has over twice as many turnovers as assists. Every possession where Randle isolates or launches a contested jumper must have Wolves fans wincing. Ayo Dosunmu and Terrence Shannon Jr. are also shooting a combined 31.1% from the field this series.
Naz Reid, Mike Conley and occasionally Rudy Gobert are the only other Wolves besides Edwards who have been positive contributors on offense. This has to change for Minnesota to go the distance.
The best bet for Game 6 is taking Wembanyama to record at least 14 rebounds. San Antonio is able to play a ton of guards and wings largely because Wembanyama cleans the glass at a hyper-elite level. Minnesota’s inefficient offense also gives him plenty of opportunities. Excluding the game where he was ejected early, Wembanyama has logged 15, 15, 15, and 17 rebounds in this series.
