San Antonio Spurs vs. Oklahoma City Thunder Game 1 Preview, Picks & Odds for Monday, May 18, 2026
Game 1 between the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Eastern on NBC. Jalen Williams has been sidelined since April 22 due to a hamstring strain, but the former All-Star is back in action. De’Aaron Fox and Luke Kornet are both listed as questionable, although it would be surprising if they did not suit up.
Can San Antonio steal the first game on the road?
Spurs vs. Thunder Betting Analysis
San Antonio defeated Portland in the first round without too much resistance before eliminating a physical, battle-tested Timberwolves squad in the second round. It was an excellent sign that the Spurs took care of business on the road in a hostile Game 6 environment rather than letting Minnesota hang around. Despite their youth, the Spurs are seemingly ready to seize the moment.
Victor Wembanyama has been mostly excellent in his first playoff run to the tune of 20.3 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 4.1 blocks per game. Excluding garbage time, San Antonio owns a 98.9 defensive rating and 21.6 net rating with Wembanyama on the court this postseason. But Oklahoma City is a far greater challenge than Minnesota or Portland, so the Spurs need a historic two-way performance from Wembanyama to beat the champs.
Speaking of the Thunder, they swept both of their series despite being without Jalen Williams for most of the games. Ajay Mitchell’s breakout has been a revelation, as he adds more ball handling and rim pressure to the team’s offense. The sophomore is averaging 18.8 points, 4.9 assists, and 1.1 turnovers per game this playoffs. Chet Holmgren has also been hyper-efficient as a scorer, and Oklahoma City is knocking down triples at a 38.4% clip. The Thunder will be incredibly difficult to beat if they remain efficient from beyond the arc.
It will be worth monitoring whether they begin Game 1 flat due to rust. They have not played since eliminating the Lakers on May 11.
The best bet for Game 1 is taking Luguentz Dort to score at least two points and at least six points in the first quarter. Defenses are typically more condensed to open games against the Thunder because of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s interior scoring and the double-bigs. This can lead to more kick-outs, and opponents are content to funnel shots to Dort. Overall, Dort has recorded at least two points during the first quarter in six of eight games this playoffs, along with at least six points in two of eight games.
