Game Betting Analysis
There’s two ways to go here, with the ATS providing a little more confidence than the total – although Tennessee is on an 0-4 Under run at home this season. Tennessee has actually hit the Under in six straight home games when playing in October. However, Alabama is an Over juggernaut this season, hitting it in five straight games before running into both Georgia and the aftermath of a hurricane on Saturday. The Under has also hit in two straight meetings, but the Over hit in three straight prior. So we look at the ATS market where the home team has covered the spread in five straight games. And while Alabama enters with a 4-2 ATS mark, Tennessee has seen the underdog cover the spread in nine of 10 home games. The home dog, or the Under, seem fine here but the buyer beware sticker should come included with both. With Tennessee’s quarterback situation, and Alabama’s Coleman-Williams out, the Under might be better here.

Deciding Factor: Alabama’s Receiver Shortage vs. Tennessee’s Quarterback Carousel
No. 6 Alabama (5-1, 3-1 SEC) is favored on the road (-7.5, around -340 on the moneyline) in the “Third Saturday in October” rivalry despite coming off its first loss of the season, a defeat at No. 1 Georgia. Keelon Russell has had a strong sophomore campaign (1,599 passing yards, 12 touchdowns through the air, 4 more on the ground, just 2 interceptions), but he’ll be without his top target Saturday — Ryan Coleman-Williams is officially out with both knee and head injuries suffered in the Georgia loss, with head coach Kalen DeBoer saying there’s a “pretty good chance” he won’t play. The injury report doesn’t stop there: linebackers Cayden Jones and Desmond Umeozulu, defensive linemen Jeremiah Beaman and Terrance Green, and defensive back Nick Sherman are all out as well, with Jones and Beaman done for the season entirely. Alabama’s defense still ranks 7th nationally in adjusted EPA per play, but it’s a jarring 126th in red-zone defense, a crack Tennessee could exploit if it can grind out long, methodical drives.
Tennessee, meanwhile, is dealing with its own uncertainty at the position, just a different kind — the Volunteers have used three different starting quarterbacks this season, and redshirt freshman George MacIntyre will get the ball again after an up-and-down first career start last week at Arkansas (18-of-29, 247 yards, 1 touchdown, 2 interceptions), with original starter Faizon Brandon unlikely to retake the job after a shoulder injury suffered against Texas. Tennessee’s passing game has been one of the worst in the country as a result, ranking 121st in EPA per pass and 126th in pass-play success rate, which leaves Josh Heupel’s offense leaning hard on running back DeSean Bishop, who has topped 100 rushing yards in each of his last two games. The Vols’ defense (32nd in adjusted EPA per play, 14th against the pass) has been good enough to keep them in every game this season, including a three-point home loss to Texas that stands as their only blemish, which gives Tennessee a path if it can lean on Bishop, protect MacIntyre, and make Alabama’s shaky red-zone unit bail them out of long drives. If Coleman-Williams truly can’t go and Alabama’s passing attack is forced to lean on unproven options, Tennessee’s sturdy defense and a hostile Neyland Stadium crowd give the Volunteers a real shot at the upset and the cover; but if Russell finds enough answers without his top receiver and Alabama’s defense tightens up in the red zone against a MacIntyre-led offense still finding its footing, the Crimson Tide should have enough to escape Knoxville with the win.
