Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers (9/18/22): Odds, Predictions, and Depth Charts

After an eventful week one of NFL football, we look forward to week two where teams look to bounce back after losses or keep a winning streak going.  Week two also allows us to see some NFL rivalry games.  One in particular is the most historic rivalry as the Chicago Bears travel up to Green Bay to play their foes in the Packers.  While the Packers took a disappointing loss in week one against the Vikings, the Bears were able to pull off a surprise win against the 49ers in sloppy weather conditions.  Let’s get into this game’s  matchup odds and predictions.

Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers Betting Odds

Even though the Bears walked away week one with a victory, they are still entering this game as pretty heavy underdogs as the Packers are moneyline favorites at -460.  The spread line is also not close at -9.5 points currently.  Green Bay’s offense got off to a slow start with only seven points in week one, but expect a bounce back in week two at home in Lambeau Field.

The two-time reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers will surely get a chance to get any rust off against the rival Bears, a team he has stated in the past that he ‘owns’.  He struggled getting used to his new receiving core without Davante Adams but should be able to get more familiar with the trio of Lazard, Cobbs, and Watkins in week two.  Continuing to be able to feed the pigskin to Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon will also be crucial to being able to keep that cover line in play.  The over/under is being placed at 42.5 points as well.

Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers Picks & Predictions

Prediction: Packers cover -7.5 ALT SPREAD (-138)

I believe the Packers are able to bounce back and Aaron Rodgers is able to defeat this Bears defense who has lost Khalil Mack this offseason.  The -9.5 spread is a little too steep for me however after seeing how the Bears were able to slow down the 49ers offense allowing only ten points in week one.  The Roquan Smith led defense is good enough to keep it close but the Bears offense is something I still am yet to be convinced upon with the lack of offensive line strength to defend Justin Fields.  I also believe the sloppy raining conditions in Chicago led to a lot of unpredictable turnovers that helped Chicago get the win.  I don’t believe those same conditions will come to play in Green Bay and a veteran quarterback like Rodgers should be able to help minimize turnover risk as much as possible.  I think getting the line at -7.5 will be a line that shouldn’t have you too stressed with your bet and gives the Packers winning by a touchdown plus a couple points.  The line also could move plenty by Sunday closer to 7 points.

The over at 42.5 is also something to consider playing in this game as the Packers offense should be expected to score.  The Bears have also had a lot of overs in play in their last couple road games if you scroll down to betting trends.

Key Matchups

Justin Fields vs. Green Bay Defense

One major matchup I am looking at is Justin Fields going up against the Green Bay defense.  The talk all offseason is Fields lack of weapons and his constant on-the-run throwing due to offensive line struggles.  That didn’t stop Justin from leaving week one with a win in the rain as he threw for 2 TDs.  He did only go for 121 yds and threw an interception as well since rain did play a factor.  If he can limit turnovers and continue being able to find receivers like Darnell Mooney he may be able to keep the Bears in it.
