Best Bet: U6.5 (-108) at DraftKings

Score Prediction: Rays 5, Guardians 1

The Pick: Rays 5, Guardians 1

We’re going with the Under again based on the same data we entered the series with, while the Rays’ run line also provides value.

Game Betting Analysis

Are you surprised we’re going with the Under, again? It’s hit in more game than not this series as the Under has now cashed in five of seven meetings along with 10 of the last 13 – now Tampa sending Freddy Peralta to the mound to try and punch their ticket to the World Series. Tampa Bay has also hit the Under in four straight home games when playing on a back-to-back. There is value in Tampa Bay’s run line as a favorite as well, with Cleveland dropped the run line in its last four games, three as the underdog.

Deciding Factor: Freddy Peralta’s White-Hot Form vs. Cleveland’s Ice-Cold Bats

Freddy Peralta is the single biggest reason Tampa Bay is one win from the World Series, and his track record says tonight’s elimination game favors the Rays before a pitch is thrown. Peralta was a non-factor with the Mets this year, going 5-9 with a 4.99 ERA before New York shipped him to Tampa Bay on Aug. 2, but he’s been a different pitcher since: 5-2 with a 3.25 ERA in 10 regular-season starts for the Rays, capped by a 4-0, 0.96 ERA September that earned him AL Pitcher of the Month. That form has carried straight into October — he allowed one run over 4 2/3 innings in ALDS Game 2 against the Yankees, then was even better in his only previous ALCS start, throwing 6 shutout innings against this exact Cleveland lineup in Game 2, allowing just 4 hits with 6 strikeouts and touching a season-high 99.4 mph on his fastball in a 3-1 win. With Tampa Bay already holding a 3-2 series lead, another vintage Peralta outing on normal rest closes this series out.

Cleveland’s bats, meanwhile, have gone ice cold at the worst possible time. The Guardians haven’t scored more than three runs in a game since they put up seven in Game 1 of this series, and the last two outings have been especially bare: in Game 4, three Rays pitchers held Cleveland hitless from the second inning through the seventh, with the offense’s only life coming on Chase DeLauter’s first-inning single and a two-out flurry in the seventh that produced all three of their runs; in Game 5, they managed just five hits total, scored their only run in the sixth on a Steven Kwan single, a José Ramírez single and a DeLauter groundout, then went quiet for the final three innings against Drew Rasmussen’s seven shutout-until-then innings. If that pattern holds against a Rays pitching staff riding Peralta’s dominant form, another night of long stretches without a hit ends Cleveland’s season; but if Kwan, Ramírez and DeLauter can turn even one of those mid-game droughts into the kind of sustained rally that produced their Game 1 outburst, this lineup has shown it still has life in it.
