Matthew Stafford was listed with a right elbow injury on the Los Angeles Rams’ first injury report ahead of their Week 9 game at Washington, NBC Sports reported. The quarterback said Wednesday that he feels good and has continued practicing fully.
Stafford reports no missed reps
Reporters noticed ice on Stafford’s throwing arm after the Rams’ game against the Chargers. Coach Sean McVay described the issue as soreness Monday and directed specific questions to Stafford.
Stafford said icing his arm has been part of his routine, rather than a new development following that game.
“I’m 38 years old trying to keep up with these young bucks. A little bit of soreness and stuff that is not uncommon this time of year,” Stafford said.
He also emphasized that the issue has not interrupted his workload.
“Again, I haven’t missed a rep at practice. I haven’t missed a rep in a game and I feel good. I’m not too worried about it.”
Rams’ passing volume has declined
NBC Sports’ Mike Florio identified the elbow issue as something to monitor, raising the possibility that it could affect Stafford’s ability to generate maximum force and velocity on throws.
The Rams’ recent passing volume provides additional context, though the report does not establish an injury-related cause for the decline. Stafford attempted 55 passes in Week 3, 51 in Week 4, and 54 in Week 5. His attempts then fell to 33 in Week 6, 29 in Week 7, and 25 in Week 8.
