Game Betting Analysis
The most confidence we have after going through the betting data is the Under, but there is another play to consider which would be Illinois. Let’s start with the Illini, owning this matchup with spread covers in four of the last five meetings with the Huskers. Also, Illinois has covered eight of nine games when playing as an underdog in November. They are, surprising, home underdogs for this game. The underdog has covered four of five meetings as well. So we take Illinois? Well, Nebraska is 6-1-1 ATS this season, so respect is shown for Big Red as ATS opponents. The Under has, however, hit in three of four meetings. Illinois has also gone Under the total in six straight conference home games – becoming a seemingly common trend among Big Ten schools. So while we have more conviction in the Under, there is data backing both teams in the ATS market but more numbers in the corner of the home underdog while Nebraska tries to navigate through a three-game losing streak as a road favorite on a shortend week.

Deciding Factor: Collin Dixon’s Historic Scoring Pace vs. Anthony Colandrea’s Turnover Freefall
Illinois arrives in Champaign riding real momentum, having won three straight after an early two-game skid to sit at 5-3 overall and 3-2 in the Big Ten, with a 72.5% chance per ESPN to lock up bowl eligibility with one more win. The engine has been receiver Collin Dixon, who has caught 10 touchdowns this season — 4th-most nationally and tied for the Illinois single-season record — giving Katin Houser a go-to weapon in exactly the situations that have decided Illinois’ last two wins, an upset of Oregon at home and a walk-off field-goal escape against Maryland. Running back Javari Barnett is rounding the offense out at the right time too, posting a career-high 80 yards on just six carries, including a 64-yard touchdown, in that Maryland win. Houser himself is still shaking off rust in his return from surgery to repair a broken throwing hand — he was under 60% completion in his first game back — but with Dixon commanding extra attention in the red zone and Barnett now forcing defenses to respect the run, Illinois has the full offensive puzzle in place right as it hosts a Nebraska defense that’s been bled dry the last three weeks.
The Cornhuskers, meanwhile, are living through one of the most dramatic in-season collapses at the quarterback position in recent Big Ten memory. Anthony Colandrea opened the year 5-0 as a starter with 1,142 passing yards and 13 touchdowns, numbers that had him in the conversation as one of the conference’s better transfer additions. Over the three-game losing streak that’s followed — including a home upset loss to Washington — he’s completed just 683 yards with 2 touchdowns against 5 interceptions, throwing three picks in that Washington loss alone. All three of those losses have come by a combined 13 points, meaning Nebraska has been in every one of them, and the turnovers, not a talent gap, are what’s actually sunk them. Nebraska has still won 3 of its last 4 trips to Champaign and sits ahead of Illinois in the Sagarin ratings (28th to 42nd), so the roster-level gap isn’t large. But if Colandrea reverts to his last-three-weeks form against an Illinois defense that’s found its footing during this same stretch, Dixon and the Illini’s own habit of winning close, nervy finishes down the stretch gives them a real path to a fourth straight win and bowl eligibility in the same night.
