To pair with Tuch, we turn our attention towards William Nylander and Timo Meier with the two aggressive forwards battling it out against a pair of back line that give up high quality Shots on Goal at an alarming rate. Before Saturday’s slate gets underway, check out our NHL betting trends page for the latest daily game odds, insight, and data.

Alex Tuch (Capitals vs. Panthers) Goal Odds

With Alex Ovechkin and Tom Wilson struggling to get into a groove, Alex Tuch has been able to keep the Washington Capitals afloat while leading the team in Expected Goals with an average of 0.53 per game.

In a highly anticipated matchup against the Florida Panthers, Tuch will be able to continue to pressure the net at a high rate by exposing a back line that resides in the bottom ten in Expected Goals Against From High Danger Shots. When Akira Schmid is left unprotected, the Panthers goalie has been unable to wall off shots while scrambling across the ice, averaging a Save Percentage of .889.

With the Panthers struggling to keep a body in front of the puck, positive regression is also looming large over Tuch in 5-on-4 Situations, leading to a bump in his usage rate while running the second unit. Back Tuch to score against the Panthers and place a separate wager on the Capitals forward to score the first Goal as well.

William Nylander (Maple Leafs vs. Canadiens) Goal Odds

While the Toronto Maple Leafs front line have underperformed as a whole, William Nylander has been able to thrive, averaging 0.40 Expected Goals while generating 2.88 Shots on Goal per game.

Fortunately for Nylander, he will have a great opportunity to score against the Montreal Canadiens by taking advantage of a back line that struggles in coverage per their below league average mark in Expected Goals Against in All Situations. Even with Jacob Fowler playing at a high level, John Tavares making his return from injury will help pull the Canadiens goalie away from the net, widening Nylander’s shooting lanes.

In 5-on-4 Situations, Nylander moves to the center position, allowing him to anchor in the middle of the ice to set himself up with a rebound opportunity while Auston Matthews rifles off the puck from the back line. When isolated in front of the net, the quality of Nylander’s shot attempts will improve, making it difficult for Fowler to keep a clean sheet.

Timo Meier (Devils vs. Islanders) Goal Odds

Since the start of the regular season, Timo Meier has struggled to find the back of the net, scoring just one Goal in 16 starts. A stunning performance, especially when factoring in how efficient Meier has been with his time on the ice, averaging 0.33 Expected Goals per game.

With the New York Islanders on deck, Meier will be able to light the lamp for the second time this season by relentlessly attacking a back line that ranks in the bottom half of the board in Expected Goals Against in 5-on-5 Play. While a matchup against Ilya Sorokin looks daunting on paper, the support Meier receives from his supporting cast will help keep the Islanders goalie constantly moving between the pipes, creating larger gaps on the outside for the Devils forward to exploit.

When in the Power Play, Meier has been able to continue to pressure the net, averaging 0.81 Shots on Goal per penalty. With the Islanders back line stretched out thin, Meier will be able to convert his shot attempts into Shots on Goal at a higher rate, increasing his chances of scoring.
