Game Betting Analysis
This is a very tricky game to wager or trade on, but there seems to be a path to the Ole Miss spread – let’s dive in. Beginning with the total, Ole Miss typically goes Under at home. The Rebels average 50 points per home game this season with a 1-3 O/U record, also hitting theUnder in eight of nine home games against AP Ranked schools. However, Georgia enters the game with a 6-2 O/U mark while the Over has also hit in three of four meetings. The spread is also messy, Ole Miss typically thriving not only at home but within the entire state of Mississippi. Ole Miss has covered the spread in seven straight home games when facing an AP ranked school, winning 17 straight games outright in the state of Mississippi. As underdogs, the moneyline is live. The home team has also covered the spread in four straight meetings (not played on a neutral site). Georgia’s 6-2 ATS mark is the setback here, though. So as you can see, there is a lot of risk in this game but the clearest path through the data seems to be Ole Miss covering the spread – and if you’re feeling froggy perhaps winning outright.

Deciding Factor: Georgia’s Nation-Leading Defense vs. Trinidad Chambliss’s Turnover-Prone Brilliance
No. 2 Georgia enters 7-1, with its only blemish a 24-27 loss to Auburn, and built its best chance to win in Oxford around the best defense in the country: the Bulldogs are allowing just 14.9 points per game, a number that has carried them even when their own offense sputters — quarterback Gunner Stockton threw for only 101 yards in a 27-8 win over Florida last week, his lowest output of the season, and turned the ball over three times in that Auburn loss. That defense now gets a crack at Ole Miss’s Trinidad Chambliss, a Heisman-caliber dual threat with 2,191 passing yards, 18 touchdowns and 245 rushing yards with seven more scores on the ground — but also eight interceptions, a notably high number for a quarterback in the middle of the Heisman conversation. If Georgia’s defense can turn Chambliss’s aggressiveness against him the way it has done to opposing offenses all season, the Bulldogs won’t need much from Stockton to escape Oxford with a win.
The Rebels, meanwhile, are 6-2 and ranked No. 12 after bouncing back from a 34-27 loss to Texas (which dropped them from No. 7) with a 45-15 blowout of Auburn, a game in which Chambliss passed for 263 yards and two touchdowns while also running for 65 yards and a score, giving him three total touchdowns as Ole Miss’s offense (37.1 points per game) carried a defense that’s allowing a far more modest 24.0 points per game than Georgia’s. Ole Miss will also be without star running back Kewan Lacy, who is out with a separated shoulder, putting even more of the rushing burden on Chambliss himself against a Georgia front that has been stout against the run all year. Georgia is favored by 3.5 with the total at 56.5, but if Chambliss protects the ball better than he has at times this season and Stockton has another quiet night throwing it, the extra load Ole Miss is asking its quarterback to carry could be enough to spring the home upset.
