At the same time as their puck drop, Vasily Podkolzin will be able to continue to pressure the net at a high rate by taking advantage of a back line that struggles in coverage. For some more information, check out our NHL betting trends page for the latest daily game odds, insight, and data.
Brayden Point (Lightning vs. Predators) Goal Odds
After a horrific start to the year, Brayden Point has been able to get into a groove, netting a pair of Goals in his last two starts. Even when Point was unable to find the back of the net, he was still able to create high quality shot attempts, averaging 0.42 Expected Goals per game.
In a favorable matchup against the Nashville Predators, Point will be able to build on his momentum by attacking a back line that ranks below league average in Expected Goals Against in All Situations. Juuse Saros has also fallen into a slump, giving up 3.33 Goals Against per game while averaging a .890 Save Percentage in his last three outings.
When in 5-on-4 Situations, Point’s usage has remained unscathed, generating 0.42 Expected Goals per penalty. With Nikita Kucherov and Jake Guentzel pulling defensive attention away from him, Point will be able to continue to weave the puck through the middle and generate high quality Shots on Goal in front of the net for the full duration of the Power Play.
Vasily Podkolzin (Oilers vs. Islanders) Goal Odds
With Zach Hyman in and out of the lineup while dealing with injuries, Vasily Podkolzin has been able to capitalize on his heavier workload, averaging 0.42 Expected Goals while generating 2.23 Shots on Goal per game.
Fortunately for Podkolzin, the Oilers forward will have a great opportunity to light the lamp by picking apart a back line that struggles to smother the puck per their near dead last mark in Expected Goals Against From High Danger Shots. Even with Ilya Sorokin walling off shots at a high rate, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl will force the Islanders goalie to scramble between the pipes, widening Podkolzin’s shooting lanes.
While Podkolzin has underwhelmed in the Power Play, the Islanders inability to defend the net will lead to a higher volume of Shots on Goal in front of the crease, increasing his chances of scoring.
Nazem Kadri (Avalanche vs. Flames) Goal Odds
Since the start of the regular season, the Colorado Avalanche front line have been firing on all cylinders, ranking in the top-10 in Expected Goals For. Nazem Kadri has played a major role in the Avs success on offense this season, averaging 0.35 Expected Goals per game.
With the Calgary Flames on deck, Kadri will be able to pressure the net at a consistent rate by ambushing a back line that ranks in the bottom half of the board in Expected Goals Against in 5-on-5 Play. While Devin Cooley is a step up in quality of goalie when compared to Dustin Wolf, the Flames playing on the second half of a back-to-back will affect the defenseman’s legs, leading to sluggish movements which will help create more space for Kadri to exploit.
In 5-on-4 Situations, Kadri joins Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar, and Martin Necas in the first unit, a formidable trio who will help stretch out the Flames coverage. With fewer bodies in front of the net, Kadri will be able to convert his shot attempts into Shots on Goal at a higher rate, making it difficult for Cooley to match his output.
