Colombia 2026 World Cup Team Preview, Betting Odds, Predictions & Best Bets

The Colombian national football team is set to make its seventh FIFA World Cup appearance in 2026, still searching for its first world title in the nation’s history.

After missing the 2022 tournament, Colombia returns to the world stage under manager Néstor Lorenzo, riding one of its strongest competitive cycles in a decade. Lorenzo’s squad finished the CONMEBOL qualifiers in third place with 28 goals in 18 matches.

Colombia enters the tournament with the third-best odds among CONMEBOL nations, trailing only Brazil and Argentina. At roughly +3000, bookmakers view Los Cafeteros as an outside contender rather than a true favorite.

The South American squad currently has the tenth-lowest odds of reaching the World Cup final in mid-July. Colombia’s best-ever tournament outing saw Los Cafeteros reach the quarter-finals back in 2014.

Colombia 2026 World Cup Best Bet

FIFA currently ranks Colombia as the 13th-best squad entering this year’s tournament. The team has excelled under Lorenzo, who took over in 2022.

Colombia reached the Copa América final in 2024, where they narrowly lost 1-0 to Argentina. Los Cafeteros played exceptionally well during CONMEBOL qualifiers, finishing with the second-highest goal tallies of all countries.

With the South Americans playing some of their best football over the past couple of years, a relatively deep run is certainly in the cards for Colombia at the 2026 World Cup.

Best Bet: Colombia to Reach Last 16 (-115)

Colombia 2026 World Cup Players to Watch

Colombia’s 2026 World Cup squad will feature a good mix of veteran and young talent. Here are some players to watch during the tournament:

Luis Diaz: The 29-year-old winger makes his World Cup debut amidst the best season of his career. Bayern Munich’s superstar left winger has the fourth-most goal contributions in Europe’s top five leagues with 28 G/A. The Colombian attacker also had a spectacular Champions League campaign, finishing the tournament with 10 G/A in 12 games played.

Diaz will undoubtedly serve as Colombia’s primary attacking threat on the left side of the pitch. Expect the Colombian forward to continue his Ballon d’Or-level play in his first World Cup appearance.

Richard Rios: Ríos has emerged as one of South America’s most complete midfielders, offering defensive stability while increasingly contributing in possession and attacking buildup. The former Palmeiras star moved to Benfica last summer and has recently been in some of his best form during his short tenure.

While Ríos has primarily been known for his defensive prowess, the Colombian midfielder has provided a much-needed attacking boost for his club over the past two months. Rios has 7 of his 8 G/A in Liga Portugal over this stretch of games, and will seemingly be entering the tournament in great form.

Colombia World Cup History

Colombia’s failure to make the 2022 World Cup came as a surprise to many. The national team was in transition after losses in the Round of 16 and the quarter-finals in 2014 and 2018, respectively.

Many of the stars who carried the country in those tournaments were much older, and Los Cafeteros ultimately struggled, winning just five matches in CONMEBOL qualifiers leading up to the tournament in Qatar.

The team has now taken a different approach under Lorenzo and seems to have turned a page, looking ahead. Los Cafeteros will look to surpass its predecessors in 2014, and reach the World Cup semifinal, or beyond, for the first time in the country’s history.
