Best NFL Week 6 Picks Against the Spread
- Bears ()
- Panthers ()
- Steelers ()
Chicago Bears () at Atlanta Falcons
Heading into this game, Bears quarterback Caleb Williams should be back in the lineup. Right now, the spread of -3 demonstrates that, but I do ponder that this could go out to 3.5 when Williams is officially ruled active. On top of that, the Bears defense has been great against the run, ranking ninth in yards allowed per game, including just 70 allowed in Week 5. This is great against a Falcons offense that relies heavily on its rushing attack from Bijan Robinson and Brian Robinson Jr.
Another thing to consider is that the Falcons could be without Michael Penix Jr. It sounded like he could’ve returned in Week 5, but he didn’t. If he doesn’t play, I have almost no faith in Tua Tagovailoa. He showed why in his brief appearance last week, throwing the game-ending interception in overtime. Should Penix Jr. suit up, he’ll face a Bears defense that ranks eighth in the NFL in man coverage snaps on defense. Against man coverage dating back to last season, Penix Jr. has completed 44.3% of his passes for 503 yards (6.4 yards per attempt), three touchdowns, and one interception across 88 dropbacks.
As for Tagovailoa, he’s not much better, completing 61% of his passes for 374 yards (6.3 yards per attempt), though he has eight touchdowns on 65 dropbacks. Overall, the Bears defense is strong against the run, and the offense has a much higher floor with Williams under center.
Carolina Panthers () at Philadelphia Eagles
The Panthers are well-rested coming off a bye week, while the Eagles are coming off a heartbreaking loss in London. So one team has had to fly internationally in the last week, while the Panthers have been able to rest. Coming into this game, the Eagles mostly play Cover-3, but they also play quite a bit of Cover-6. Against those coverages this season, Panthers quarterback Bryce Young has been solid, having completed 62.1% of his passes for 503 yards (8.7 yards per attempt), two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. It doesn’t look good for Hurts or running back Saquon Barkley to return either. On top of that, backup running back Will Shipley is out with a foot injury, so they may have to rely on Dameon Pierce and/or Carson Steele.
Pittsburgh Steelers () at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Don’t look now, but Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been playing quite well this season. He has 10 touchdown passes and four interceptions. He’s coming off a game in which he completed 71% of his passes and has thrown three touchdowns in three straight games. Of those 10 touchdowns, three have come while pressured, which is tied for second-most passing touchdowns while pressured in the NFL.
Now, he faces a Todd Bowles-led Buccaneers squad. Over his career, Rodgers has done well against Bowles, completing 71.1% of his passes for 697 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception across two starts. The Buccaneers have a strong run defense, allowing just 72.8 rushing yards per game, the second-fewest in the NFL. However, the Steelers are 30th in the NFL in rushing play percentage at just over 35%. Rico Dowdle is coming back, which will help, but they’ve been able to put points on the board through the air.
Finally, the Buccaneers’ quarterback Jalon Daniels heads into his third start. He’s completed 69.1% of his passes, but he’s averaging just 6.1 yards per attempt, so he’s not pushing the ball downfield much.
