The near-halfway point of the NFL season means that it’s trade season. Teams across the league are taking stock of who they are, what they want to be, and who can help them get there. The Colts have already been active sellers, but there’s likely more to come. Especially if injuries continue to cloud the picture for potential buyers.

We head into the Week 8 injury report with the news that Lamar Jackson might finally be ready to return after missing three weeks, but who else pops up on the watchlist this week?

QB – Lamar Jackson (Ravens vs. Bills): Probable
Lamar Jackson has been a perennial member of the injury report throughout the 2026 season. The two-time MVP has missed the last three games with a high ankle sprain after starting the season strong. The Ravens have lost two of their three games without Jackson and with Tyler Huntley under center—facing the Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals’ defenses in the last two weeks certainly hasn’t helped the productivity of the offense. Still, Huntley also just can’t do the things Jackson can do. The list of quarterbacks who can is incredibly short. Thankfully, for the Ravens, Jackson looks to be ready to go for a massive AFC clash against the Buffalo Bills and their own superstar quarterback, Josh Allen, in Week 8. Jackson has been a full participant for the Ravens in practice all week, which points towards his return being a near-certainty. High ankle sprains are hard to shake off, and it might still limit Jackson’s ability to scramble and extend plays, but even just being back on the field is a step in the right direction. Hopefully, Jackson can help stop the Ravens sinking.
WR – Amon-Ra St. Brown (Lions vs. Vikings): Probable
Death, taxes, and Amon-Ra St. Brown being one of the NFL’s most consistent and productive receivers. Through the first seven weeks of the season, St. Brown has 46 catches (6th) for 525 receiving yards (9th), and five receiving touchdowns (T-4th) in six games, and had a season-high 153 yards off nine catches in the Week 7 win against the Green Bay Packers. However, at some point in the game, St. Brown tweaked his ankle, according to Dan Campbell, and missed practice on Wednesday. That’s a concern for the Lions; they’ve built the passing game out of St. Brown in recent seasons, and it’s worked to great effect—the Lions are first in EPA per pass and second in passing success rate, per Sümer Sports. There’ll be some concern seeing St. Brown as a non-participant in practice, but Campbell said he should practice later in the week and be ready to go for the NFC North matchup vs. the Vikings.
DT – Quinnen Williams (Cowboys vs. Cardinals): Probable
The Dallas Cowboys’ defense had higher hopes than this. First-year defensive coordinator Christian Parker looked to be someone who could elevate a failing defense with some talented pieces. But the Cowboys’ defense sits 30th in expected points added allowed in 2026, and has allowed the fourth-most yards per game in the league. The struggles have been real, and would be worse if the Cowboys were to lose their defensive lynchpin, defensive tackle Quinnen Williams. The former Jet has been nursing a hamstring injury over the last week and was limited in practice on Wednesday. A limited participation early in the week is something to keep an eye on, but there shouldn’t be any major concern that the defensive star is in danger of missing the Cowboys game against the Arizona Cardinals. If Williams does end up missing the game, it’ll make a bad Cowboys’ defense a heck of a lot worse.

WR – A.J. Brown (Patriots vs. Dolphins): Questionable
The Patriots paid big money for A.J. Brown ahead of the 2026 NFL season. The veteran receiver was meant to help elevate an offense in need of a true number one receiver, but so far, the onboarding has been less than satisfactory. Brown has played in just three games so far this season, catching nine passes for 101 yards, and has already had a short stint on IR. Brown headed into Wednesday in a limited capacity (knee, ankle), but wasn’t seen at practice on Thursday. That’s led to alarm bells ringing. A knee issue flaring up for Brown could be a worst-case scenario for the Patriots. That knee issue has been considered degenerative, and an absence on Thursday points towards Brown being in jeopardy of missing Sunday against the Dolphins, and beyond.
TE – Tyler Warren (Colts vs. Jaguars): Questionable
After an offseason of promise, the Colts sit barren after seven weeks of the season. A bad start to the season, with a 2-5 record, has led to general manager Chris Ballard being fired and franchise cornerstones Quenton Nelson and DeForest Buckner being traded—with more potentially on the way out. One star who won’t be going anywhere is second-year tight end Tyler Warren. The 2025 first-round pick has missed the last two games with a groin issue, and the Colts’ passing game has struggled in his absence, averaging just 15 points per game. Warren has been limited at practice on Wednesday and Thursday, but seems to be trending the right way in time for Sunday. The Colts’ offense needs Warren back on the field as the main weapon in the passing game. Let’s see if he’s back on the field come Sunday as the Colts begin to transition to a new era.
WR – Carnell Tate (Titans vs. Bengals): Questionable
The Tennessee Titans’ offense is in bad shape. Quarterback Cam Ward is 33rd out of 34 quarterbacks in expected points added per passing play and has played poorly enough that there are now serious conversations about whether he’ll be a Titan in 2027. The one saving grace for the Titans’ offense in 2026 is that first-round rookie Carnell Tate is starting to look like a receiver worth being excited about. Tate has 34 catches for 413 yards and a touchdown through seven games and has four games with at least five catches, but he sustained a shoulder injury and missed practice on Thursday. Even with Tate on the field, the passing attack has struggled to generate yards and points. Wan’Dale Robinson and Elic Ayomanor could be in line for more targets if Tate does miss the game vs. the Bengals in Week 8. Right now, his status is up in the air.

S – Kerby Joseph (Lions vs. Vikings): Out
The Lions were blessed to get one of the top defensive backs back on the field in Week 7. Pro Bowl safety Brian Branch returned from a torn Achilles to star in the Lions’ 20-17 win over the Packers, snagging an interception in the win. Now that Branch is back, it seems that his running mate, Kerby Joseph, isn’t far away from making a comeback of his own. Joseph played just six games in 2025, a year after earning his first First-Team All-Pro selection, before suffering an injury that’s kept him on the sidelines for over a year. Joseph won’t be back on the field yet, but the Lions opened his practice window on Wednesday, meaning they now have 21 days to activate him. Joseph was one of the best safeties in the NFL before his injury, and gave the Lions an edge on the back end with Branch—an edge they’ve been missing as the defense has struggled. His return isn’t far away.
T – Charles Cross (Seahawks vs. Bears): Doubtful
A former first-round pick back in 2022, Charles Cross has developed into a stalwart left tackle in his first five seasons in the NFL. Cross has allowed just a 6.0% pressure rate on 249 pass-blocking snaps, per Sumer Sports, and continues to be a key contributor for a Super Bowl-winning offense. That offense might be without their starting left tackle for a few games, though. Cross sustained a high ankle sprain in the win against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7 and left the game. The good news for the Seahawks is that Cross avoided a major injury and won’t be out for too long. The bad news is that he’s a hard player to replace. Veteran swing tackle Josh Jones stepped in to replace Cross and will more than likely start against the Bears on Monday Night Football.
S – Derwin James Jr. (Chargers vs. Rams): Doubtful
How much worse can life get for the Los Angeles Chargers? A 0-6 start has them in the basement of the AFC West and the NFL. A hype train gone off the tracks before it ever really got rolling. Not much is going the Chargers’ way, but the defense has at least been above average, ranking 11th in expected points added allowed. But in classic Chargers’ fashion, that silver lining has turned into a stormy shower as All-Pro safety Derwin James has been battling a hamstring injury. James hasn’t played since the Week 3 loss to the Bills, and though there was hope that he could be ready in time to return from their bye week, James has reportedly suffered a setback in his recovery and is now likely to miss the Chargers’ matchup with their Los Angeles rivals. The Chargers have the depth with veteran Tony Jefferson, but not getting one of—if not the best—defensive players back on the field as you look to overturn a horror start is a blow.
