To pair with Meier, we turn our attention towards Sam Bennett and Jordan Eberle with the duo facing off against a pair of back lines that struggle to keep a body in front of the puck. Before Friday’s mini slate gets underway, check out our NHL betting trends page for the latest daily game odds, insight, and data.
Timo Meier (Devils vs. Golden Knights) Goal Odds
Since the start of the regular season, Timo Meier has been able to convert his shot attempts into Shots on Goal at a high rate, leading the New Jersey Devils with an average of 3.62 per game.
While a matchup against Vegas looks daunting on paper, the Golden Knights have quietly struggled to wall off shot attempts in front of the crease, ranking below league average in Expected Goals Against From High Danger Shots. When left uncovered, Adin Hill has been unable to stand his ground, averaging a Save Percentage of .895.
While in the Power Play, Meier has shockingly taken a step back as the leader of the Devils second unit, mustering just 0.62 Shots on Goal per penalty. With the Golden Knights struggling to defend the middle, Meier will be able to generate a higher volume of Shots on Goal in front of the net, increasing his chances of scoring.
Sam Bennett (Panthers vs. Jets) Goal Odds
After scoring a hat trick against Seattle, Sam Bennett has been unable to build on his momentum, failing to score a Goal in his last four outings. During his cold stretch of play, Bennett has still been able to rifle off high quality Shots on Goal, averaging 0.31 Expected Goals per game.
In a favorable matchup against the Winnipeg Jets, Bennett will have a great opportunity to snap his four game skid by taking advantage of a back line that struggles in coverage per their bottom ten mark in Expected Goals Against in 5-on-5 Play. Even with Stuart Skinner playing at a high level, the Panthers wide spread assault will force the Jets goalie to make quick cuts across the ice for the full duration of the contest, creating wider gaps beside him once wear and tear rears its ugly head.
Like Meier, Bennett has also taken a back seat in 5-on-4 Situations while leading the Panthers second unit. With the Jets incapable of defending the net, Bennett will be able to anchor in the middle while his linemates stretch out the coverage, improving the quality of his Shots on Goal.
Jordan Eberle (Kraken vs. Flames) Goal Odds
After a hot start to the year, Jordan Eberle has struggled to recapture the same success he had earlier in the season, scoring just one Goal in his last seven starts. While his aggression has yet to be rewarded, Eberle has been able to at least pressure the net, averaging 0.35 Expected Goals while generating 2.38 Shots on Goal per game.
Heading into Friday night’s contest against the Calgary Flames, Eberle will be able to bounce back in a big way by attacking a back line that resides in the bottom half of the board in Expected Goals Against in All Situations. Especially with Dustin Wolf incapable of protecting the Flames net, giving up 4.81 Goals Against per game while averaging a Save Percentage of .839.
With Jared McCann out with an injury, Eberle’s usage rate will also tick up in 5-on-4 Situations, leading to a higher volume of shot attempts. If Devin Cooley gets the start in net instead of Wolf, reduce the size of your wager.
