The final tennis major of the season is finally here with the US Open set to take place in a couple of days. With that, we will dive into some of the top contenders and favorites to win both the men’s and women’s draws. This year’s major seems as drama-filled as ever with a No. 1 ranking on the line as well.

2026 US Open Men’s Contenders
Carlos Alcaraz (+200)
2026 Betting Stats
- Outright: 22-3 (3rd)
- ATS: 7-14-4 (203rd)
- Total: 13-10-2 (81st)
It’s unclear what type of form we will see from Carlos Alcaraz in New York, his first tournament in months since sidelining himself with an arm injury. So while it’s nice to have the betting data for him this season handy, it might not mean much if he is still trying to get back into elite form. Keep in mind that this is a ‘best-of-five’ set setting, so the thought Carlitos can advance through the finish line fresh off a very serious injury is best to be left at the door.
Alexander Zverev (+320)

- Total: 308-28-1 (101st)
With Jannik Sinner now out of New York, Alexander Zverev once again becomes the ultimate opportunist here (Adam Copeland, anyone?). Although he was able to take advantage of a depleted field to win his first major in Paris, he hasn’t shown any consistency since then which includes lower level events. We’ll see how the draw shapes up for him, as his path might be another breeze. However, his form is currently shaky at best and has quietly lost three of his last five main draw matches.
Ben Shelton (+900)

- ATS: 22-22-2 (131st)
- Total: 25-21 (87th)
Ben Shelton is a tricky one to nail down right now, as his run in Canada is something to consider although his form in 1000 level events or higher has been lackluster in 2026. The Aussie Open saw a quarterfinal run before losing to Sinner, and while his run in Canada was nice – he won in Toronto last season and so it seems to be a Canadian love affair for Ben. He has failed to reach the Round of 16 in Indian Wells, Miami, Madrid, Rome, Roland Garros, Wimbledon and Cincinnati – only reaching the Round of 32 in Indian Wells (losing first round Miami through Cincy). So while Shelton is a contender, buyer beware.
Novak Djokovic (+750)

- ATS: 7-11-1 (192nd)
- Total: 13-6 (48th)
This analysis is going to align with the three above, which is, probably pass. We’re beginning to sound cranky, but it’s no secret Novak Djokovic has been a top fade for events this season. The question with Novak this late in his career is stamina, and his last showing in Cincinnati is tough to back moving forward. Joker will prepare his body as best as he can, and if the draw aligns, then he might go deep on a run. To see him lift the trophy in his current shape, along with young sharks smelling blood in the water for a major title now that Sinner is out and Carlitos hurt, is a stretch to say the least.
Taylor Fritz (+1200)

- ATS: 19-23-4 (167th)
- Total: 24-20-2 (88th)
Of all the contenders listed so far, Taylor Fritz might be the best pick. His form is currently peaking since returning from his Dungeons and Dragons tour, winning a very impressive 19 of his last 25 main draw matches. He is back in his home country and playing on his favorite surface. Ironically, four of his last six losses have come against fellow Americans. It might be worth noting, for later rounds should he advance that far, he is a perfect 2-0 this season as the underdog.

Aryna Sabalenka (+350)

- ATS: 17-27-4 (190th)
- Total: 26-22 (101st)
What comes up, must come down. For Aryna Sabalenka, that statement couldn’t possibly more true depending what happens in New York these next few weeks. She is not only defending her title, along with lots of points, but also defending her No. 1 ranking with three other women mathematically in contention to take that spot. So with lots of pressure, and losses in three of seven matches, it’s tough to get behind Sabby here. She has failed to win more than three straight matches since winning four at Roland Garros, losing in the Round of 16 her last three tournaments.
Iga Swiatek (+475)

- ATS: 21-20-3 (114th)
- Total: 19-22-3 (175th)
Iga Swiatek has completely flipped the script of her 2026 form since the Hard Court Swing began, winning in Canada while displaying lethal tennis in Cincinnati before losing to eventual champion Coco Gauff. While Swiatek might not have the motivation to claim the No. 1 spot right now, you better believe she is still hungry to get back to the mountain top. A Swiatek looking to take heads off is definitely one to get behind, but also a concern – much like a young Bryce Harper, you go too hard and overexert. If that’s our biggest concern, we’ll take it – not a bad problem to have. We’ll take Iga as a top contender based on her current form and obvious aggression displayed on the court recently. Let’s hope it doesn’t backfire.
Coco Gauff (+500)

- ATS: 29-19-4 (70th)
- Total: 28-24 (104th)
Another top contender to consider is the above mentioned Gauff, probably playing the best tennis in the world right now outside one Brandon Nakashima. Gauff absolutely destroyed top competition to win Cincinnati, and thrives under the atmosphere New York provides. Bright lights, loud crowds and the pressure of a major in New York makes it difficult for many to play under – but Coco thrives in that setting. Her form seems good enough to back, along with the event being more of a weapon for Coco than a hinderance.
Elena Rybakina (+1300)

- Outright: 42-13 (2nd)
- ATS: 26-26 (115th)
- Total: 26-26 (126th)
If this article is written a day or two from now, there’s a strong chance Elena Rybakina wouldn’t even be listed. Why? Short answer, an injury. Suffered during her match with Iga in Cincinnati, Fish might not be playing in this year’s US Open. Injury or not, she is a hard pass here with New York being her kryptonite amongst the four majors. Assuming she plays, she will be gunning for the semifinals which would see her lock up the No. 1 ranking. It’s a big deal, but also an achievement she doesn’t need to even play to accomplish. If Coco, Sabby and Jessica Pegula fail to lift the US Open trophy – Rybakina is world No. 1 no matter what. So, her motivation to actually play is suspect at best, but her history in New York regardless of her injury status is one to probably stay away from for now.
Jessica Pegula (+1400)

- ATS: 29-25-2 (101st)
- Total: 28-27-1 (125th)
Jess is another player many are circling to win the US Open this year, winning 14 of her last 18 main draw matches. She has reached the finals in two of the last three events (Cincinnati and Washington), while reaching the quarterfinals in Wimbledon, Rome, Miami, Indian Wells and Melbourne – also a trophy lifted in Charleston. Her one setback was in Paris where she lost in the first round, ironically another event many had circled her to win. Playing in her home state will certainly help, and although we love Jess as a top contender here – she has had a difficult time crossing the finish line, as her last two finals have shown. This does seem like a legit spot to take though, Jess winning her first major, because she continues to knock on the door and eventually it’ll open.
