Detroit Pistons at Indiana Pacers 4/1/19: Starting Lineups, Matchup Preview, Betting Odds

Detroit Pistons at Indiana Pacers Preview

There seems to be a close battle brewing in the Eastern Conference to determine the seeding from sixth through ninth, and while the Detroit Pistons are sixth, there are six games remaining on their schedule and just a game and a half separating them and the Orlando Magic, so they’ll need to continue winning tonight to try to lock up their place in the playoffs. They’ll be in Indianapolis tonight to take on the Indina Pacers, who have already clinched a playoff berth.

The Pistons are 39-37, and although they have wopn their last two games entering tonight’s matchup, they are 5-5 in their last 10 games. The Pacers are fifth in the East with a 45-32 record and are likely headed to a first round playoff matchup with the Boston Celtics. Indiana is 3-7 in their last 10 games and they have lost three straight.

The Pistons and Pacers last played on February 25 in Detroit. The Pistons won 113-109  behind a big night from Andre Drummond, who finished with 26 points, 16 rebounds and three blocked shots. The Pacers were led by Bojan Bogdanovic, who had 25 points.

Pistons Analysis

Detroit PistonsThe Detroit Pistons are doing their part to try to cement a spot in the postseason. They won their last three games, two of which have come against the Denver Nuggets and the Portland Trail Blazers.

The Pistons had to dig deep in their 99-90 win over Portland on Saturday because Blake Griffin was a last-minute scratch from the game.

“It was kind of an emotional jolt to us a little bit because he was there warming up and everything. All at once, boom, he’s not there,” Pistons coach Dwayne Casey said. “We’ll be better from that. We’ll be better the next time out. It kind of surprised all of us. We knew his knee was a little sore, we still thought he was going to go. And he tried.”

With Griffin out, the Pistons got off to a slow start, but a third-quarter surge erased their offensive woes in the first quarter. Andre Drummond played very well in the win with 22 points and 19 rebounds. Reggie Jackson also added 28 points and Langston Galloway had 12 off the bench.

Griffin is listed as day-to-day and he is expected to miss tonight’s game as well.

Pacers Analysis

Indiana PacersThe Indiana Pacers have done what most didn’t expect them to do, clinch a playoff berth without Victor Oladipo. But don’t expect the Pacers to be celebrating just yet as they know there is still work to be done after losing their last three games to the Oklahoma City Thunder, Boston Celtics and Orlando Magic.

“You have to be mentally tough to withstand these obstacles. If you can’t, you don’t belong in the NBA,” point guard Darren Collison said. “The good thing is, it’s happening right now before the playoffs. If it gets us a little tougher mentally and if we cut down some of the mistakes we’re making in the fourth quarter of these games, we’ll be fine. We’ve got to be tougher.”

In their 116–121 loss to the Magic, the Pacers struggled to deal with the Magic’s offensive onslaught in both the first and fourth quarters. Seven Pacers players scored in double figures, but Orlando matched that. The Pacers were led in scoring by Collison, who finished with 24 points and nine assists. Bojan Bogdanovich, who is enjoying a career year and has been a big reason why the Pacers have been able to continue playing at a playoff level, had 22 points and seven rebounds.
