Los Angeles Clippers vs. Philadelphia 76ers 01/01/19: Starting Lineups, Matchup Breakdown, Odds, Daily Fantasy, Betting
Los Angeles Clippers vs. Philadelphia 76ers Preview
An interconference matchup tonight pits the number four team in each conference against each other as the Los Angeles Clippers (21-15) host the Philadelphia 76ers (23-14) at the Staples Center.
The Clippers and 76ers got off to fast starts this season, but they are glad to be leaving behind the month of December and starting fresh with a new year. Los Angeles was 6-9 and Philadelphia was 6-6 in the month of December.
Both teams enter tonight’s game off tough losses. The Clippers are coming off a 111-122 loss to the San Antonio Spurs. Home court didn’t prove to be an advantage that night, and Philadelphia struggled in their most recent game on this West road trip with a 95-129 loss to Portland.
In their last matchup of the regular season series on November 1, Joel Embiid led the 76ers to a 122-113 win. He finished with 41 points and 13 rebounds on the night, while Lou Williams led the Clippers with 26.

Clippers Analysis
The Los Angeles Clippers are 4-6 in their last 10, but they have lost just five games all season at the Staples Center. One of those losses came on Saturday night against the San Antonio Spurs, who have seemed to turn the corner in December.
A 39-19 third-quarter run by the Spurs proved to be costly for the Clippers, and while they tried to rally back behind 36 fourth-quarter points, it wasn’t enough. The Clippers’ biggest problem was that they could not stop LaMarcus Aldridge, who scored 38 points. Against a more intimidating big man in Joel Embiid, the Clippers will have to give Boban Marjanovic more help. They won’t be on the second game of a back-to-back tonight like they were against the Spurs, so that should come into effect as well.
One positive from the Clippers loss was that they continue to get big contributions off the bench from Lou Williams and Montrezl Harrell. They’ve needed both players in the past week when a few starters have struggled. Williams was a big reason the Clippers were able to beat the Lakers on Friday with only one starter breaking 10 points.

76ers Analysis
Philadelphia has been so up and down in December that it’s become difficult to predict which 76ers team will show up. They had an impressive win over the Raptors and then lost to the Celtics. They followed that with a big 17-point win over the Utah Jazz but were humbled in a 34-point loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. They were without Embiid against the Blazers, but that doesn’t quite explain a 34-point loss.
Jimmy Butler had a cold shooting night, knocking down just 2-of-12 attempts from the field and not making a single one of his two three-point attempts. Wilson Chandler also didn’t do much on the offensive end, and Amir Johnson managed just two points and four rebounds starting in place of Embiid.
Embiid’s status is still up in the air for tonight, but coach Brett Brown said that it wasn’t anything that was too concerning.
