The Los Angeles Lakers hope to get back to the .500 mark tonight as they travel to Memphis to take on the Grizzlies. Winning games against lesser opponents like the Grizzlies are going to be important down the stretch if LeBron James and the Lakers hope to get into the NBA playoffs.
After a statement win against the Rockets, the Lakers, who are in 10th place in the West, enter tonight’s game after a loss. They are 29-30 on the season and 4-6 in their last 10. Memphis is on a four-game losing streak. They are second to last in the Western Conference with a 23-38 record and are 3-7 in their last 10 games.
Memphis won the most recent game in the regular season series 107-99 on December 23. The Grizzlies were led by Jaren Jackson Jr, who had 27 points and nine rebounds in the game. In the loss, the Lakers were led by LeBron James, with 22 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists. In the matchup prior to that, Los Angeles cruised to a 111-80 victory behind Kyle Kuzma’s 20 points and LeBron James’ nine assists.

Lakers Analysis
The Los Angeles Lakers went from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows in a matter of days. Such is life for the Lakers lately, as they performed likely the best they have all season in a win over James Harden and the Houston Rockets. They, unfortunately, followed that on Saturday night with a 115-128 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans without Anthony Davis.
“The last few years, everyone’s so accustomed to the losses that I’m just not accustomed to,” LeBron James said after the game about his current teammates. “I’m not accustomed to it. I will never get comfortable with losing. ”
The Lakers can put points up on the board, but they’re the biggest issue lately is that they have not been able to stop other teams from scoring. There have been several defensive lapses.
In the game against the Pelicans, the Lakers were led in scoring by Brandon Ingram, who had 29 points and five rebounds, and James added 27 points, 12 assists, and seven rebounds.

Grizzlies Analysis
Speaking of getting used to losing, that’s been something new Memphis Grizzlies center Jonas Valanciunas has had to adjust to as he was traded from a Toronto Raptors team that has the second best record in the league and now plays for a team on a four-game skid that is likely out of the playoff picture.
“Losing stinks. We’re trying to learn how to win games,” Valanciunas said recently.
The Grizzlies’ last loss came against the lowly Cleveland Cavaliers, who had only managed 13 wins prior to the game.
Valanciunas had 25 points and 11 rebounds in the game, and his former Raptors teammate who came to Memphis in the trade, Delon Wright, finished with 15 points and seven rebounds. Joakim Noah had another big game with 16 points, and Mike Conley added 18 points.
Chandler Parsons, who returned for the last few games, had just four points in 18 minutes. The Grizzlies certainly missed rookie Jaren Jackson Jr.
