New York Knicks at Atlanta Hawks 2/14/19: Starting Lineups, Matchup Preview, Betting Odds
New York Knicks at Atlanta Hawks Preview
In an Eastern Conference matchup featuring two of the conference’s worst teams, the New York Knicks will be on the road against the Atlanta Hawks tonight in the second game of a back-to-back. It’ll be the final game for both teams before the All-Star break.
Atlanta is 12th in the East with a 19-38 record and are 7.5 games out of eighth place, giving them a lot of work to do in the second part of the season if they want to get into playoff position. They are 4-6 in their last 10 but won their most recent game last night. The Knicks continued their streak, extending it to 18 consecutive losses. They are dead last in the East and have the worst record in the league at 10-47 and for all intents and purposes could be ending their huddles with 1-2-3 Cancun chants at this point.
The last time the Knicks and Hawks faced off was on December 21 in a 114-107 win for the Hawks, as they were led by Kent Bazemore with 22 points. The Knicks were led by Emmanuel Mudiay, who finished with 32 points but has been sidelined as of late.

Knicks Analysis
New York Knicks coach David Fizdale continues to experiment with his starters and rotations since the Kristaps Porzingis trade, but he has yet to find the right mix or solution enough to get a win in the last 18 games. With only two of their six total double-digit scorers being starters, the offense was certainly an issue yet again, especially in the second quarter of last night’s 111-126 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.
The 76ers scored 37 in the first quarter, but the Knicks were able to stay with them until the second quarter, where Philadelphia outscored them 34-22. The 76ers big men gave the Knicks headaches. Joel Embiid had 26 points, Tobias Harris had 25, and Boban Marjanovic and Mike Scott combined for 18 points off the bench.
Guard Mario Hezonja, who seemed to be on the brink of being something special in his first two years in Orlando, seems to have regressed with the Knicks. Between fluctuating playing time and inconsistent play, Hezonja’s numbers have taken a dip since last season, and although he was inserted into the starting lineup last night, he played just six minutes. Allonzo Trier, who was a bright spot for the Knicks weeks ago, but had since been quiet, had a big night against the 76ers with 19 points to lead all Knicks scorers, and Kadeem Allen had 13 points.
Fizdale chose not to play any starter over 25 minutes and only had one player, Damyean Dotson, play over 30 minutes, so the Knicks should be in good shape for the back-to-back tonight.

Hawks Analysis
The Atlanta Hawks snapped a three-game losing streak with a 117-113 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night. While the Hawks didn’t do enough on the defensive end to stop several Lakers players from reaching double digits, they started off halves strong, with a six-point lead in the first and outscoring the Lakers by nine points in the third. With both teams struggling to score in the fourth, the Hawks had built up enough of a lead to secure the victory.
While LeBron James finished with a triple-double, several Hawks players contributed to the win. They were led by second-year big man John Collins with 22 points and eight rebounds, and rookie point guard Trae Young had 22 points and 14 assists. Taurean Prince, who seemed to be on the trade block last week, has played well recently and had another strong game with 17 points.
Vince Carter and Alex Len came off the bench and contributed 11 points apiece.
