San Antonio Spurs at Golden State Warriors 2/6/19: Starting Lineups, Matchup Preview, Betting Odds

San Antonio Spurs at Golden State Warriors Preview

The San Antonio Spurs have not quite had the start to the Rodeo Road Trip they expected, and things will get considerably harder tonight with several players sitting out as they are on their second stop on the road trip in Oakland against the Western Conference-leading Golden State Warriors.

The Warriors are 37-15 on the season, are 9-1 in their last 10 and are entering tonight’s game winning their most recent game. They retain a half-game lead over the Denver Nuggets for the first place spot. San Antonio is 7-3 in their last 10 and lost their most recent game. The Spurs are 32-23 on the season, which has them sitting at sixth in the Western Conference.

In the last matchup between the Spurs and Warriors on November 18, San Antonio won 104-92. LaMarcus Aldridge had a standout game with 24 points and 18 rebounds. Kevin Durant led the Warriors with 26 points and six assists in the game.

While this game seemed fitting of the National TV billing it had before the Spurs announced their injury report, it’ll be interesting to see how the Spurs’ skeleton crew does against a healthy Golden State team.

Spurs Analysis

San Antonio SpursThe Spurs are on the first game of a back-to-back tonight against the Warriors, so aside from starting point guard Derrick White being out, the Spurs are also playing without their top two players in LaMarcus Aldridge and DeMar DeRozan, who are listed as out on the injury report due to load management.

This makes Rudy Gay the likely go-to scorer tonight when he doesn’t have his hands full guarding Kevin Durant. They’ll also lean on Bryn Forbes and likely Marco Belinelli for offense. Defensive, the Spurs have a challenge ahead as they’ll have to defend Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson without White, who has been the Spurs’ best wing defender this season.

In the Spurs road trip-opening loss to the Sacramento Kings on Monday night, they had scoring help from six players who scored in double figures, but they struggled to defend Sacramento’s Dash Bros. combo of De’Aaron Fox and Buddy Hield. That’s not a good sign going against the tandem the Kings’ backcourt nickname was based on.

With a mostly healthy team, losing against Sacramento was a surprise to some, but they’ve been a sneaky good team this season. The Warriors are surprising no one, but stopping them is another beast altogether.

Warriors Analysis

Golden State WarriorsThe Warriors are entering tonight’s home game with plenty of rest. They last played on Saturday in a 115-101 win over the Los Angeles Lakers.

By most teams’ standards, the Warriors looked good, but by Golden State standards, they haven’t looked quite as good in the win over the Lakers and a loss to Philadelphia last week. With several days off, look for the Dubs to be focused tonight. Steve Kerr usually doesn’t allow his team to look past opponents so they won’t be looking past a Spurs team without their best players.

On Saturday, Klay Thompson led the Warriors with 28 points. DeMarcus Cousins still hasn’t seen a big minutes jump, but that hasn’t stopped him from making an impact. He had 18 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists in just 25 minutes against the Lakers. Without LaMarcus Aldridge to defend him in the paint, look for the Warriors to get him started early.

San Antonio Spurs at Golden State Warriors Betting Odds

Considering the players involved in tonight’s game, it’s no surprise to see Golden State as a huge 14-point favorite to win tonight’s home game. The Warriors are 19-7 at home this season and 36-11 as the favorite. The Spurs are 10-16 on the road and 12-13 as the underdog.

The over/under is 231 points and the moneyline has not budged since the Warriors opened at -1600. Against the spread, the Spurs are 31-13-11 and Golden State is 22-14-16.
