San Antonio Spurs vs. Memphis Grizzlies Preview
The San Antonio Spurs (22-17) play host to their Southwest Division foe, the Memphis Grizzlies (18-20) tonight at the AT&T Center. The Spurs are on a three-game winning streak and have won seven of their last 10, while Memphis has lost their last four and have only been able to win two of their last 10 games.
The last time they met, back on November 21, the Grizzlies escaped with a narrow 104-103 win. It was a battle between Mike Conley, who finished with 30 points and nine assists, and DeMar DeRozan, who had 24 and five.
The Spurs, who hosted the Raptors in the return of Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green, will welcome Grizzlies forward Kyle Anderson back to San Antonio tonight.

San Antonio Spurs Starting Lineup
San Antonio is riding high after their big 125-107 home win over the Toronto Raptors. The Spurs jumped out to a quick lead and never seemed to look back. Aside from their all-star duo of DeMar DeRozan, who had his first career triple-double, and LaMarcus Aldridge, who had 23, the Spurs are getting contributions from their other starters and their second unit.
That has been a big part of their success as of late. Rudy Gay has consistently been that third-leading scorer, but Bryn Forbes has taken a step forward this year as a double-digit scorer and three-point threat, and Derrick White showed the entire bag of tricks on Thursday night. He had 19 points and four assists, and most importantly, although having a major height disparity, he defended Kawhi Leonard all night, didn’t allow him to get to his spots and limited him to just 21 points.
The Spurs’ defense is definitely not the dead last defense we were seeing earlier in the year, and White has been an important part of that. Aside from that, with confidence in so many scorers, the Spurs are moving the ball well lately.
Memphis Grizzlies Starting Lineup
|PF||Jaren Jackson Jr.|
Memphis’ last win came in 2018, December 26, 2018, to be exact when they handled the Cleveland Cavaliers in a low-scoring affair. Since then, they’ve dropped games to Boston, Houston, Detroit, and Brooklyn. Things won’t get any easier as they take on the surging Spurs on the road.
One positive that came from last night’s loss to Brooklyn was a triple-double performance from former Spurs Kyle Anderson, who finished with 11 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists.
Jaren Jackson Jr. has also been solid for Memphis lately, but the Grizzlies problems seem to be much deeper. According to reports, a team meeting got physical recently.
The Grizzlies are hoping a recent trade with the Bulls in which they acquired Justin Holliday will help. The Grizzlies like Holiday’s playmaking ability and they weren’t afraid to move several players and picks to make the trade happen.
