Clemson vs Notre Dame Odds, Picks, Predictions (11/5/22)
Contents
Clemson visits Notre Dame after coming off a bye, but they beat Syracuse before that. Notre Dame is also coming off a road win against Syracuse just last week. This should be an interesting matchup because Clemson is set up to win out, but Notre Dame is there in the way. Let’s take a look at the odds and make some picks and predictions for this game!
Clemson vs. Notre Dame Odds
Clemson is a 3.5-point road favorite against Notre Dame and is at -175 on the money line. The over/under is also at 44.5. Clemson being a slight favorite here might seem like a bit of a surprise, but it’s situational. The last time Clemson visited Notre Dame they lost and while Notre Dame isn’t as good as we originally thought this year, they are still decent. South Bend is also a very tough place to play so that’s a factor here too. The over/under being this low also jumps out, but it also makes sense because both teams have very good defenses and inconsistent offenses. Oddsmakers are expecting a very close and low-scoring game.
Clemson vs. Notre Dame Prediction & Pick
The Pick: Notre Dame +3.5
This pick may be surprising, but Notre Dame has come on strong recently, and looked impressive last week. Notre Dame has been winning games this year with their running game, and their defense. Drew Pyne was thrust into the starting quarterback role after an injury to Tyler Buchner at the beginning of the year, and he’s been inconsistent to say the least. The Notre Dame defense is the key here against a Clemson offense that’s better than what it was last year, but still inconsistent. The Fighting Irish are giving up 22 points and 334 total yards a game which is very good and will cause problems for Clemson. The Tigers offense averages 37 points and 422 total yards a game which is very good, but not great. DJ Uiagalelei has been better, but Will Shipley is the engine that makes them go, and Notre Dame’s got the ability to stop the run and put pressure on Uiagalelei to make passes, which he’s shown he’s been inconsistent at. Take Notre Dame here in a close game and potentially an upset because situationally it sets up well for the Fighting Irish as compared to the Tigers who have been operating on thin ice in recent weeks.
Clemson vs. Notre Dame Key Matchups
Can Clemson contain Audric Estime? Will Notre Dame be able to slow down Will Shipley?
Audric Estime vs the Clemson Front Seven
Audric Estime has come on strong for Notre Dame this year, especially after Tyler Buchner went down, the running game has been asked to do more here. He has 99 carries, 558 rushing yards, and eight rushing touchdowns on the year so far. His best game was against North Carolina when he ran for 134 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns on 17 carries. Clemson has one of the better rushing defenses in the country and are allowing 88 rushing yards a game. Estime is the key for Notre Dame and if he has a good game then Notre Dame’s chances here go way up.
Will Shipley vs the Notre Dame Front Seven
Will Shipley is the engine that makes the Clemson offense go. He has 123 carries, 739 rushing yards, and 10 rushing touchdowns on the year so far. His best game was two weeks ago when he had 172 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns on 27 carries. Notre Dame has a decent rushing defense and is allowing 129 rushing yards on the season so far. The Fighting Irish are going to key in on Will Shipley because of how often he gets the ball. If Shipley can get lose at all, then it’s going to be a long day for the Fighting Irish because that will also allow DJ Uiagalelei to get more comfortable as well.
