Georgia Tech vs UCF Odds, Picks, Predictions (9/24/22)
Contents
Georgia Tech visits UCF this week after getting shut out at home against Ole Miss, while UCF is coming off a big win against Florida Atlantic. Georgia Tech seems like they are reeling a bit, but they have a good opportunity here to rebound a bit against a UCF team that has a dynamic offense. Let’s take a look at the odds, and make some picks and predictions for this game!
Georgia Tech vs. UCF Odds
UCF is a 20-point favorite at home in Orlando and is also at -1250 on the moneyline. The over/under here is high, at 57.5. The total is a little high here, considering that the Georgia Tech offense has struggled a bit, and just got shut out in their last game. The spread seems high, but it’s mainly because of how much the Yellow Jackets seem to have struggled to open the year. Oddsmakers are most likely betting that UCF will win in a blow out because of that total, but it’s still something that jumps out overall. Keep an eye on this total because this seems like a number that could go down a bit.
Georgia Tech vs. UCF Prediction & Pick
This pick isn’t necessarily because you should love UCF here, but it’s because Georgia Tech has done nothing but struggle to start off the year. Georgia Tech only has one win and it was against an FCS opponent that they didn’t look amazing against, and they also only scored 35 points in that game too. Georgia Tech has had issues on offense and defense alike. Their quarterback, Jeff Sims, has only thrown one touchdown, and also has two interceptions.
In two games against FBS opponents the Yellow Jackets only scored 10 points because they got shutout in one. The defense also has had issues, like giving up 40 points in each of those games against FBS teams. They were also out-gained in their game against an FCS opponent. The issues just seem like they continue to pile-up for the Yellow Jackets, and don’t seem like they are getting better.
UCF’s offense is very dynamic and very emblematic of exactly what their coach, Gus Malzahn, likes to do. The main cog in that offense is quarterback, John Rhys Plumlee, who leads the team in both passing and rushing yards. he’s also got five touchdown passes to two interceptions and has a 60% completion percentage. He’s the main reason to really like this spread in favor of UCF. If the Yellow Jackets aren’t careful, He could have a field day against them.

Jeff Sims vs the UCF Passing Defense
Jeff Sims is the key for Georgia Tech in this game. The offense has had a very rough start to the year, but they could try and reverse that if they could start scoring, especially in this game. The best quarterback UCF has faced so far has been Malik Cunningham and he just barely surpassed 200 passing yards.
The UCF defense might be more than ready for the Yellow Jackets, but that’s why all the pressure is on Jeff Sims. Sims’s passing stats so far have not been impressive, so it’s fair to wonder if he can lead this offense for Georgia Tech.
If he can at least lead the offense to a few scores in this game though, Georgia Tech has a decent chance here. It also is a big game for the coaching staff of Georgia Tech because they might be on their way out, so Sims could help quiet that noise for a little bit too. This matchup will decide the game because I don’t see the Georgia Tech defense stopping what UCF has been doing on offense.
