Wyoming vs BYU Odds, Picks, Predictions (9/24/22)

Wyoming visits BYU in Provo on Saturday night after shocking Air Force last week. The Cougars are coming off a loss at Oregon where it seemed like nothing could go right. This should be an interesting matchup Saturday night. Let’s take a look at the odds, and make some picks and predictions for this game!

Wyoming vs. BYU Odds

BYU is a 21.5-point against Wyoming at home, and is also at -2100 on the money line. The over/under sits at 49.5 which jumps out because Wyoming hasn’t had a very productive offense so far this season. BYU’s offense has been good so far, and should get some help back this week in the receiving corps.

The spread also jumps out because of how big it is, so it says the oddsmakers are betting on a big BYU rebound after the way they lost last week. The spread is something to watch and see if it goes down at all because of the big win Wyoming got last week.

Wyoming vs. BYU Prediction & Pick

This is a good place for the Cougars to rebound. Last week was not a great game for them against Oregon. There seems to be good news on the horizon too for BYU with the potential return of their top two receiving targets, Puka Nacua and Gunner Romney. Jaren Hall has been very good for the Cougars at quarterback so far this year, so if he gets those receivers back it will be nothing but good news for the offense.

BYU was looked at as a dark-horse CFP contender before the year and they still could get there too, but it starts this weekend. BYU looked very good against South Florida to start the year, and then got a very good win against Baylor too, so this is still a very good and talented team that can make some noise this year. The defense has also been very good and solid, and Wyoming presents a good matchup on paper for them. Wyoming’s offense has been inconsistent this year, especially against FBS opponents. They have scored just four touchdowns against those opponents across three games.

Wyoming’s defense is their strength, and that defense lead them to an upset of Air Force last week. If Wyoming’s offense can’t score, then the defense will continue to be put in tough spots, and it might not matter how good the defense is on paper if that happens. The Wyoming defense is the biggest reason to potentially be wary of this cover, but a BYU team looking to rebound after a tough loss and at home should be enough here to cover.

Wyoming vs. BYU Key Matchup

Is Jaren Hall good enough to torch this Wyoming secondary? Check out the key matchups and mismatches for BYU vs Wyoming below.

Jaren Hall vs the Wyoming Pass Defense

Jaren Hall has been a great quarterback for BYU, dating back to last season. Hall has thrown for over 820 yards and also has thrown five touchdowns to one interception so far this season. He also has a 69% completion percentage so far this season. His best game so far was oddly enough against Oregon where he threw over 300 yards and two touchdowns. He’s had a great start to the year and also what separates him too is that he’s a mobile quarterback, so he has an added elusiveness to him.

Wyoming’s defense is their strength, and it’s the biggest reason why they pulled an upset last week against Air Force. Their run defense might be better than their pass defense, but the pass defense will be key here. Their worst game so far has been against Tulsa where they allowed 460 yards and three touchdown passes. Hall is the best quarterback they have faced so far, so this will be a very interesting matchup in the game and could decide the outcome too.
