Los Angeles Chargers vs Miami Dolphins
The Los Angeles Chargers (2-6), fresh off another late-game disappointment, will take on the Miami Dolphins (5-3) this Sunday afternoon. After having a last-second game-winning touchdown overturned last week against the Las Vegas Raiders, the Chargers are now on a two-game losing streak. The Dolphins have won their last four games, two of which coming with Tua Tagovailoa as the starter.
The Chargers offense has been among the league’s best since Justin Herbert took over at quarterback for Tyrod Taylor. While many expected Joe Burrow to be the runaway Rookie of the Year, it now appears that Herbert may be the front-runner. Herbert has the Chargers offense ranked second in total yards per game. They are fifth in the league in passing offense and eighth in rushing offense. However, they are just 17th in points scored per game.
The Dolphins offense has been getting bailed out by a defense/special team that has scored three touchdowns in the last two weeks. Despite ranking 29th in total offense, 23rd in passing offense, and 28th in rushing offense, the Dolphins are somehow ninth in points scored per game.
These two teams have been a tale of two opposites. The Chargers are putting up big offensive numbers but failing to score while the Dolphins have struggled to move the ball yet put up points. Herbert and the Chargers should move their offense almost at will in this game. It will just be a matter of finishing drives for the Chargers, which they should do in this game. The Dolphins offense will struggle to move the ball consistently unless their defense continues to bail them out, which won’t keep happening on a regular basis as it has.
The Chargers are the better team and if they knew how to play a full 60 minutes instead of 58 or 59, they would likely be 6-2 this season. Roll with the Chargers in what will likely be a reality check game for the Dolphins.
