Dennis Rodman grabbed 20.8% of available offensive rebounds while on the court during the 1995 season, which remains the highest single-season percentage since offensive rebounds were first tracked in 1974.
Mitchell Robinson is on pace to shatter this record, as he’s currently snagging 24.9% of available offensive rebounds. Keeping him off the glass is one of the most difficult tasks in the NBA, and Detroit must navigate this problem without Duren and Stewart.
The Pistons also rank 21st in three-point percentage and cannot turn to Duren’s scoring around the basket. They may be forced to take more jumpers than usual, which means far more defensive rebounds for Robinson.
Overall, Robinson has recorded at least eight rebounds in 24 of 39 games this season (61.5%), and the implied probability of his -107 odds is 51.6%. That’s a massive edge merely based on hit rate, but it’s also a desirable matchup.

Detroit entered the All-Star break with the best record in the NBA. Cade Cunningham is a legitimate MVP candidate due to his offensive load and two-way production, while double-double machine Jalen Duren reached his first All-Star game.
Although the Pistons’ young core deserves the lion’s share of the credit, the offseason acquisitions of Duncan Robinson, Caris LeVert, and Javonte Green have paid huge dividends. They seamlessly mesh with Detroit’s schemes and culture and do an excellent job of impacting winning on the margins. Robinson’s perimeter shooting, in particular, is a crucial cog in the offense.
The Pistons lost a close series to the Knicks in the first round of the 2025 playoffs, so Detroit’s core has a small amount of postseason experience. However, it’s a vastly different concept to enter the playoffs as a youthful team just happy to be there compared to being a title contender occupying the one seed. Detroit will have far more pressure to advance this time around.
Meanwhile, New York is coming off its first Eastern Conference Finals appearance since 2000. The Knicks currently rank third in offensive rating and 11th in defensive rating according to NBA.com, so they profile as a true contender. However, the roster has a Jekyll and Hyde element that raises concerns about this team winning four straight playoff series. New York’s floor in any given game may be too low to reach the NBA Finals, much less win it against a powerhouse like Oklahoma City or Denver.
Karl-Anthony Towns needs to step up. The veteran is on pace to easily record the lowest effective field goal percentage of his career, and he’s definitely not making it up on the defensive end. Towns rediscovering his shot would alleviate many problems that the Knicks currently face.
On the bright side, trade deadline acquisition Jose Alvarado is off to a scorching start. He’s averaging 14 points per game while shooting 45.5% from deep on 7.3 attempts per game. Now, Alvarado has only worn a Knicks jersey for four games, so expect his shooting to regress swiftly. But the former Pelican provides point-of-attack defense and brings a new dimension to New York’s bench.
