2026 WTA Berlin Tennis Open Bracket Analysis

Quarter 1

Quarter 1 seems pretty difficult on paper, with Aryna Sabalenka as the top seed in the event and in Quarter 1. She will immediately face the winner of Anastasia Potapova and Ekaterina Alexandrova, the former playing very well lately while the latter is still finding consistency this season. Under Sabalenka’s section also lies someone she lost to in Paris with Diana Shnaider.

Shnaider has always shown the potential to be a top player, but with the turnover to a new surface she’ll be even more eager to continue her momentum from Roland Garros. She faces a dark horse in Round 1, however, with Nikola Bartunkova while the always grass-dangerous Elise Mertens faces Liudmila Samsonova in a meeting where the winner could spark a run. Much like the Potapova-Alexandrova match above, however, Mertens is in much better form than Samsonova although it truly is a toss up. It would be intriguing to get a Paris rematch for the quarter between Sabby and Shnaider but this quarter seems anything but chalk.

Quarter 2

Jessica Pegula gets the first round bye as the No. 3 seed in Berlin and the top name in Quarter 2. She also sees fellow American and podcaster Madison Keys in her section, both trying to get back to consistent winning. Also in this quarter is the very dangerous Karolina Muchova, who much like the pairing Americans, is looking to reestablish her form following a patchy clay court season. While Keys historically does well on grass, the quarter should come down to who can find their consistency again between Pegula and Muchova. If neither, we might be looking at a qualifier/lucky loser as two won last week in Donna Vekic and Robin Montgomery.

Quarter 3

This should be between Linda Noskova and Coco Gauff, as both have winning records on grass courts. Gauff’s grass court record is a much larger sample size but also features 10 more wins than losses. Noskova, although above .500 on grass, has a much smaller sample size with just three more wins than losses. However, the names lumped in Quarter 3 are lacking form in both Paula Badosa and Clara Tauson, meaning a qualifier or lucky loser might also be worth a look here.

Regardless of which qualifiers or lucky losers are seeded in Quarter 3, it is Gauff’s to lose followed by Noskova. We will lean Gauff with a stellar grass court record along with overall talent in the quarter, but there is potential for an outsider to take this if Noskova and/or Gauff can’t find their form quickly on the new surface for each.

Quarter 4

The quarter of death, with Elena Rybakina as the top name in it as the event’s No. 2 seed. She will face the winner of Alexandra Eala and Vekic in Round 2, the latter winning London as a lucky loser while Eala as a lefty presents some challenges for Lena. Above Fish’s section also lies some heavy hitters that can take the quarter in both Elina Svitolina and Anna Kalinskaya.

While Svit is much more consistent between the two, Kalinskaya’s run in Roland Garros reminds everyone how dangerous she can be when everything is clicking for her on the court. This is a tough quarter to predict with four legit contenders to reach the semifinals: pick your poison.

Tournament Pick: Coco Gauff +550
Sleeper Pick: Linda Noskova +1700

2026 WTA Nottingham Open Bracket Analysis

    Quarter 1

The draw is a bit of a mess with the top two seeds withdrawing in Iva Jovic and Barbora Krejcikova. This makes Emma Raducanu as the top name in Quarter 1, coming off an impressive week at the Queen’s Club where she reached the finals. It won’t be easy, getting a seemingly resurged Karolina Pliskova in Round 1 while Caty McNally, Antonia Ruzic, Qinwen Zheng and Maria Sakkari also lie.

The winner of the Zheng/Sakkari match isn’t a bad take here, but the winner of Raducanu/Pliskova also seems worth a look. Pilskova has been impressive lately while the fatigue of Raducanu might be a concern, despite the success she has seen in a small sample size with her current coach. The lack of consistency from all the players in this quarter makes it difficult to predict, but the winners of the two above matches should be your looks while McNally is a decent dark horse to consider.

    Quarter 2

Marie Bouzkova is the top name in Quarter 4 as the No. 4 seed in Nottingham, always a threat to do damage in the bracket. However, she gets fellow countrywoman Tereza Valentova in Round 1 so the winner of this match is one to eye moving forward. In another battle of fellow countrywoman, Harriet Dart will face Katie Boulter – who saw good results in Queen’s and typically is a threat to win events in her home country.

In the bottom section lies Tatjana Maria, whose slice and dice game is difficult for opponents to defeat on the grass surface. Also, Dayana Yastremska who looked impressive in a loss to Ajla Tomljanovic seems poised for a run soon. With that said, the winner of Quarter 2 should come from the top section with Bouzkova, Valentova and Boulter as the top picks.

    Quarter 3

Defending champion McCartney Kessler is the top name in Quarter 3, taking on fellow American Katie Volynets in Round 1. Kessler’s form is down compared to last year when she won the title, and although will be the favorite against Volynets, will have a difficult first round meeting with her. If she can get past Volynets, then the draw opens up for Kessler to make noise again.

The bottom section does feature a pair of contenders, however, in both Yuliia Starodubtseva and Emma Navarro. Staro saw good results in Charleston earlier this season, while also knocking off Rybakina in Paris. Navarro also won a title in Strasbourg prior to Roland Garros. However, both are currently below the form that saw their season-high success. Round 1 will be very telling for this quarter but the safe bets include Kessler and Navarro.

    Quarter 4

Ann Li is the name to watch, an impressive clay court season but now switching surfaces it’ll be interesting to see the trajectory of her results go. She is the top name in Quarter 4, although the No. 2 seed is Leylah Fernandez at the bottom of the bracket. Li’s path to the quarterfinals seems much easier to manage than Fernandez’s, who is also struggling with losses lately. Kimberly Birrell is a tough Round 1 opponent, but a match Li should win along with the two names under her.

However, Fernandez gets an in-form Zeynep Sonmez Round 1, albeit a bit banged up. Sofia Kenin is also in this section, and although not a dark horse to circle, a player that can easily take out the names in front of her in Quarter 4. This, on paper, seems to be Li’s quarter to win but its tough to know if she can transition to a surface she typically doesn’t do well on.

    Tournament Pick: Katie Boulter +600
    Sleeper Pick: McCartney Kessler +2500
