CJ McCollum To Record 15+ Points, Bam Adebayo To Record a Double Double, Jalen Johnson To Record 8+ Rebounds (+183 on FanDuel Sportsbook)
The Heat and Hawks link up Friday night in a matchup that carries the highest projected total of the slate at 244.5 points as of late morning. The two teams are in good health overall and both play at lighting-fast paces, so there should be plenty of productive individual performances.
With that in mind, our first leg focuses on a reliable veteran in McCollum, who’s proven to be an excellent fit since arriving in the Trae Young trade. The sharpshooter has scored at least 15 points in 12 of the last 16 games, draining 46.4% of his shots during that span, including 37.9% from distance. He’s 35-17 to the 15-point mark overall this season, and he lit up the Heat for 26 points in 26 minutes in his one prior meeting with them this season. Miami is also conceding the 10th-most made three-pointers per road game (13.9), which dovetails nicely with McCollum’s offensive profile.
We’ll shift to the Heat side of things for the second leg and focus on Adebayo, who’s proven amply capable of producing in this matchup in the recent past. Bam recorded a 16-point, 14-rebound double-double in his one game against Atlanta, and last season, he came just a rebound short of recording four double-doubles in five games versus the Hawks. Atlanta is surrendering the sixth-most rebounds per home game (55.8) as well, and the Hawks have yielded the most rebounds per game to centers in the last 15 contests. Bam has 22 double-doubles on the season, and the numbers point to him having a good chance to add to that Friday.
We’ll focus on another frontcourt player in Johnson to round things out. The heart and soul of the new-look Hawks is posting career highs in multiple categories, with rebounds (10.6 per game) being one of them. The versatile big man boasts a stellar 42-9 record to the eight-rebound mark this season, averaging 11.5 boards in those games where he’s hit the threshold. He’s posted nine and 11 boards in his first two games against the Heat as well, and Miami comes in surrendering 10.1 rebounds per contest to PFs in the last seven games.
Jrue Holiday To Score 15+ Points, Deni Avdija To Score 20+ Points, Nikola Jokic 35+ Points + Rebounds (+216 on FanDuel Sportsbook)
The Nuggets and Trail Blazers do battle Friday night in a game that could be the most competitive and perhaps even the highest scoring of the ledger, considering the narrow 1.5-point spread and 241.5-point total. Consequently, we’ll focus on three of the most integral players from either side.
We’ll begin with the veteran Holiday, who looks like he’s turned back the clock recently by averaging 15.7 points for the season and 20.5 in the last six contests. The recent surge has been in no small way tied into the absence of backcourt mate Shaedon Sharpe (calf), who’ll remain sidelined Friday. Holiday is averaging 23.0 points per 36 minutes with Sharpe off the floor this season, and if the betting metrics are accurate, the talented point guard should be in store for a heavy dose of playing time Friday.
We’ll stick with Portland and focus next on Avdija, who’s enjoying a career-best season, including as a scorer. The 2020 first-round pick is averaging 25.2 points per contest on the campaign, including 27.1 per home game. Avdija is a stellar 36-10 to the 20-point threshold overall, including hitting the mark in 20 of his 22 home contests. He recorded 23 in 33 minutes during his one previous meeting with the Nuggets this season, and he’s averaging a team-high 28.4 per 36 minutes with Sharpe off the floor. Denver has also struggled against power forwards and remains shorthanded in the frontcourt Friday, furthering Avdija’s case.
We’ll wrap things up with the Joker, who’s in the midst of another MVP-caliber season and has averaged 40.9 points + rebounds on the campaign. Jokic went for exactly 35 points + rebounds in his one prior meeting with Portland this season, and the Blazers check in allowing an NBA-high 27.8 points (and 15.1 rebounds) per contest to centers in the last 15 games. Portland is also conceding the fifth-highest offensive rebounding rate on the season (27.6%), while Jokic is averaging a career-high 3.1 offensive boards per game this season.
