The Renaissance Club is a modern, Tom Doak links course, that loosely embodies the “proper” links characteristics we’ve grown accustomed to seeing at The British Open each year. As such, it serves as a great opportunity for PGA TOUR players to cross the pond and prepare their games for The Open one week prior, so the strength of this field has continued to improve year over year. Links golf in Scotland is known to feature high sustained winds and firm and fast conditions, which encourage players to flight approach shots beneath the winds and lean on a crafty short game for scoring. As a modern links course set in golf’s birthplace, The Renaissance Club differs from the usual PGA Tour setup but brings a refreshing change of pace. The course measures 7,237 yards (6,669 meters for you European purists) and plays to a par 70 with a mix of two par 5s, five par 3s, and eleven par 4s. Links-style courses are designed to play firmer in the fairways, tempting players to use the ground more often for increased rollout, especially when winds are up. That should give an advantage to players familiar with high winds and extreme weather who are generally comfortable flighting the ball to different trajectories depending on the conditions.

At the Genesis Scottish Open, Recent Form, SG: APP, and Course History are consensus key areas factored into each player’s price. Unlike most weeks on the PGA Tour, the ability to navigate unpredictable swales of wind is crucial on the Scottish links. With that in mind, I’ll lean more on the importance of SG: Ball Striking and Comp Course History in similar wind-exposed venues to identify sleeper values.

Min Woo Lee:
Min Woo Lee was a winner of this tournament back in 2021, prior to it becoming a co-sanctioned event with the PGA Tour. Four years later, he picked up his maiden PGA Tour victory on yet another Tom Doak design, winning the 2025 Texas Children’s Houston Open at Memorial Park Golf Course. There is more than just a surface-level design connection between these two courses, as each rewards bombing drives off the tee, skilled ball-striking in the face of high winds, and crafty short game around the green. That is a perfect summation of Min Woo Lee’s game, so it’s hardly a surprise that he continues to find success here. Min Woo has made significant strides with his approach play this season, gaining with his irons in eight of his last 11 starts. An uncharacteristically cold putter has held him back over the last month, but his overall form remains solid with three top-20 finishes over his last six starts.
Tom Kim:
Elite approach play travels everywhere on the PGA Tour, and that still applies when traveling across the Atlantic Ocean to Edinburgh. While Kim may not fit the prevailing bomber archetype for the Renaissance Club, it has not held him back one bit. He joins Rory McIlroy as the only two players who have never finished worse than T20 at the Genesis Scottish Open (with a minimum of three appearances). His results include 3rd, T6, T15, and T17 over the last four years. Kim’s game appears sharp enough to continue that trend this week, as he ranks 5th in the field in SG: APP, and has finishes of 3rd at the US Open and T15 at the RBC Canadian Open over the last month. Kim’s prowess on the links transcends the Renaissance Club as well, as he posted his best career major finish (T2) at the 2023 Open Championship at Royal Liverpool. If he can manage to putt as well as he did at Shinnecock Hills, the rest of his game is ready to contend in Scotland.
Eugenio Chacarra:
The new pipeline, which sends the top-10 players from the DP World Tour to the PGA Tour each season, has significantly diluted the year-over-year talent pool that remains overseas. Although there may not be as much depth on the DP World Tour as we’ve seen in years past, Chacarra has certainly proven that he belongs playing alongside the very best in the world. Removing Patrick Reed and Rory McIlroy, who do not play a full DP World Tour schedule, Eugenio Chacarra ranks highest in the Race To Dubai standings amongst full-time players. That is without a doubt buoyed by his wins at the KLM Open and Italian Open within his last three starts, but Chacarra’s form has looked encouraging for far longer than that. He has finished top-25 in seven of his last nine DP World Tour events leading into this week. The former collegiate standout seems destined for a long career on the PGA Tour and is the most viable full-time DP World Tour player to win in Edinburgh this week.
Ryan Fox:
Navigating the wind on a flat venue heavily exposed to the coastline is an acquired skill that is not for everyone. Fox has proven to be up to the task over the course of his career however, and is the most appealing “longshot” in this field to me from an outright perspective. The Kiwi has won before on the British links, taking down the 2022 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. That is just one of his six career international victories between the DP World Tour and PGA Tour since 2019, proving he is a more-than-capable closer. Relative to a traditional links course, Tom Doak’s modernized Renaissance Club is even better tailored to the strengths of Fox’s game. While most links courses emphasize control and narrow misses off the tee, The Renaissance Club is highly forgiving off the tee, thus lending an advantage to the longest drivers in the field. Fox ranks top-30 in this field in terms of Driving Distance, Prox: 200+, and SG: Ball Striking in coastal, windy conditions. With four top-35 finishes over his last five starts, Fox looks to be in good enough form to improve on his career-best Scottish Open finish of T12 in 2023.
