Anaheim Ducks vs. Vegas Golden Knights Game 1 Preview, Picks & Odds for Monday, May 4, 2026
After nearly going the distance with the Utah Mammoth, the Vegas Golden Knights now turn their sights towards the Anaheim Ducks who are fresh off of a dominant game six against the Edmonton Oilers. A clash of styles, pitting a dominant defense against an explosive offense, creating an exciting series in round two of the playoffs.
With the Ducks back line incapable of giving them the production they need to be a well rounded unit, the Golden Knights will have a great opportunity to set the tone early and force them to play from behind. Once more aggressive, goals may be scored at a blistering fast rate in what should be a thrilling high scoring affair.
Anaheim Ducks vs. Vegas Golden Knights Betting Analysis
Since the start of the regular season, the Vegas Golden Knights back line have been one of the more dominant units in the league, ranking second in Expected Goals Against in All Situations. Their suffocating coverage helped drastically lessen the quality of their opponents Shots on Goal, forcing them into prolonged scoring lulls throughout their contests.
Unfortunately for Vegas, their coverage was not enough for Carter Hart to play at a high level as he averaged nearly three Goals Against per game in their series against the Mammoth. With Hart struggling to hold his ground, the Golden Knights were forced to play in highly volatile contests, lowering their chances of winning.
In their series against Anaheim, expect Carter to continue to deal with a high volume of pressure, battling it out against a Ducks front line who ranks in the top-5 in Expected Goals For in All Situations and in 5-on-5 Play. Especially with the Ducks possessing the versatility that is needed to stretch out the Golden Knights back line, fielding eight players who average more than 0.30 Expected Goals per game.
On the other side of the ice, Vegas should face minimal resistance in their efforts of matching the Ducks output, taking advantage of a defense who severely struggles in coverage per their near dead last marks in Expected Goals Against. Lukas Dostal has also been incapable of holding his own in their net, averaging 3.87 Goals Against per game and a .874 Save Percentage throughout the playoffs.
With both front lines in a position to thrive, expect game one between Vegas and Anaheim to feature plenty of high quality scoring opportunities, shading value towards the full game over. In regard to their series futures, pass on them for now until we see how the Ducks handle the Golden Knights coverage. If Anaheim loses but keeps it close in Expected Goals, then consider placing a wager on the Ducks to cover the series spread at a discount before game two.
