BetMGM Tabs Chris Johnson As Newest Brand Ambassador

In the all-out war between sportsbooks, every platform is pulling out the stops. Millions of dollars are being put into advertising, and it’s become commonplace to watch a sporting event and see multiple commercials highlighting different promos. One of the most popular ways that sportsbooks stand out from the competition is through the incorporation of popular brand ambassadors. For example, PointsBet has pegged Drew Brees as one of their brand ambassadors, and his image is featured prominently throughout the app. Additionally, longtime ESPN personality Trey Wingo joined Caesars Sportsbook as a brand ambassador in August, and now hosts “Trey’s Trends,” an exclusive program on the Caesars YouTube channel. Well, one more former athlete has just announced his official partnership with a popular sportsbook. Let’s take a look at Chris Johnson’s latest move.

Chris Johnson Joins BetMGM

Former Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson has officially joined the world of sports betting. The retired star recently partnered with the BETMGM Sportsbook, one of the most popular betting platforms in the U.S alongside FanDuel and DraftKings. Johnson tweeted out his excitement of joining the sportsbook on Thursday. Time will tell what Johnson’s brand ambassador role should entail, but the company has to be excited to be welcoming another former star athlete onto their team.

Johnson Joins Plenty of Star Ambassadors

Chris Johnson is far from the first brand ambassador that’s signed up with BetMGM. Likely the most recognizable star that’s signed up with BetMGM is Jamie Foxx, who appears in most of the platform’s ads. Additionally, Foxx is featured throughout the BetMGM app in its various promotional materials and is seen as the face of the sportsbook.

Plenty of former athletes have also signed on with the sportsbook. NHL great Wayne Gretzky is one of the latest to join BetMGM as an ambassador, appearing in one of the sportsbook’s recent ad spots. Another former star, retired NBA power forward and Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett signed on with BetMGM only a few weeks ago. In addition to being named league MVP in 2004, Garnett played a role in the critically acclaimed movie “Uncut Gems” in 2019. Former Seattle Seahawks star running back Marshawn Lynch also signed on with BetMGM before the start of the 2021 NFL season.

A Look At CJ2K’s Career

Chris Johnson spent ten years in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans, Arizona Cardinals, and New York Jets. The running back earned the nickname “CJ2K” thanks to his 2,006-yard season in 2009. Johnson averaged 125.4 yards per game that year and totaled 2,509 yards from scrimmage. The running back started his career with six straight seasons of at least 1,000 yards, totaling 9,651 yards and 55 TDs throughout his career.

Despite his 2,006 yard season with the Titans, Johnson doesn’t hold the single-season rushing record for the Titans. That honor belongs to Derrick Henry, who put together 2,027 rushing yards last season. Henry was on pace for another incredible season before a foot injury requiring surgery threatened the remainder of his 2020 season.
