Detroit Pistons vs. Orlando Magic Game 6 Preview, Picks & Odds for Friday, May, 1, 2026

Game 6 between the Detroit Pistons (2-3) and Orlando Magic (3-2) is set for 7 p.m. Eastern on Amazon Prime. Franz Wagner missed Game 5 with a calf injury and remains sidelined for Game 6. Jamal Cain will presumably replace him in the starting lineup again.

Pistons vs. Magic Betting Analysis

Wagner’s injury was a crushing blow to Orlando’s defense because he has excelled at defending Cade Cunningham by making the superstar work for every shot. Cunningham clearly felt more comfortable attacking sans Wagner, as he scored 45 points on 13-of-23 shooting from the field in Game 5. Excluding garbage time, the Pistons are now +4.5 points per 100 possessions with Cunningham on the court this series compared to -16.9 points per 100 possessions when he takes a breather.

Ausar Thompson also shined in Game 5. The former fifth overall pick contributed six points, 15 rebounds, six assists, five steals, and two blocks. His presence on the glass was a huge reason behind why the Magic grabbed fewer than 10 offensive rebounds for the first time this series. Thompson simply made winning play after winning play.

On the other side, Paolo Banchero carried the offense without Wagner to the tune of 45 points and seven assists on 17-of-31 shooting from the field. Banchero found his three-point stroke but struggled at the charity stripe. He’s only made 64.8% of his free throws this series, which is a major concern because he thrives at drawing contact.

Anthony Black contributed an efficient 19 points off the bench. Orlando needs him to step up offensively with Wagner injured, so Black’s Game 5 was a great sign moving forward.

The best bet for Game 6 is taking Ausar Thompson to grab at least eight rebounds. He’s an elite rebounder for his size due to his freakish athleticism and hustle, and Detroit also needs him to be active on glass to keep afloat. Overall, Thompson has logged 7, 8, 8, 9, and 15 rebounds in this series, and his odds are plus money.
