Bet Protect+ From FanDuel Now Available For WNBA

FanDuel is extending its Bet Protect+ injury protection feature to the WNBA, giving fans the option to add full-game injury coverage to eligible player prop bets.

The sportsbook launched the feature for the NBA in April in time for the playoffs. For the WNBA, Bet Protect+ goes into effect as the league’s in-game tournament, the Commissioner’s Cup Championship, is set to tip off on June 30, featuring the Las Vegas Aces and the New York Liberty, which dealt with early-season injuries to starters.

Bet Protect+ among most-used features

According to FanDuel, Bet Protect+ has become one of its most-used customer features, with more than half of eligible customers choosing to add the protection and more than 12 million bets protected to date. The sportsbook claims that no U.S. product “has offered full-game injury coverage for bets – until Bet Protect+.”

“Even with the most well-planned bet, the most comprehensive research, the best hunch, it can all get squashed by an unexpected injury,” FanDuel Sportsbook Product VP Jon Sadow said about the feature. “We want to allow our customers to regain that loss of control.”

As with the NBA, there is a flat 3% premium added to the stake at the time of placing a bet. Customers toggle the feature on within the bet slip when placing an eligible wager. The 3% fee is displayed before the bet is confirmed.

How Bet Protect+ works

Bettors are refunded in cash if a protected player exits the game due to injury and does not return, including overtime. For parlay bets, the injured player’s leg is removed, and the payout is recalculated based on the remaining legs rather than voiding the entire wager.

If a player leaves the game, briefly returns and then exits again without returning, the bet remains eligible for protection. The feature does not apply if a player leaves for foul trouble, a coaching decision, or load management.

FanDuel says it does not profit directly from Bet Protect+, with the 3% premium designed to cover the cost of providing the protection rather than generate margin. Bet Protect+ does not apply to the sportsbook’s First Basket or Quarter Prop bets and YourWay wagers. Refunds are processed in cash within approximately 24 hours, and bets may initially appear as losses during processing.

The feature is available in 20 states and Washington, D.C. Customers in ConnecticutMassachusetts, North Carolina and Tennessee also retain access to the original Bet Protect product, which provides first-quarter injury coverage with refunds issued as bonus bets rather than cash.

WNBA players already covered

The following WNBA players currently qualify for Bet Protect+, with the date of their most recent qualifying injury designation:

Player Team Qualifying Date
Alyssa Thomas Phoenix Mercury June 20
Alanna Smith Dallas Wings June 20
Jade Melbourne Seattle Storm June 20
Kate Martin Los Angeles Sparks June 17
Julie Allemand Toronto Tempo June 16
Brittney Sykes Toronto Tempo June 16
Cameron Brink Los Angeles Sparks June 15

The league requires teams to report player injuries, illnesses, and rest designations by 5 p.m. local time the day before each game, or by 1 p.m. on the day of the second game of a back-to-back. The league publishes daily injury reports on its official injury report page.
