Los Angeles Lakers vs. Houston Rockets Game 6 Preview, Picks & Odds for Friday, May, 1, 2026

Game 6 between the Los Angeles Lakers (3-2) and Houston Rockets (2-3) is set for 9:30 p.m. Eastern on Amazon Prime. Houston is striving to become the first team in NBA history to win a series after trailing 3-0.

Luka Dončić and Kevin Durant remain sidelined for Game 6.

Lakers vs. Rockets Betting Analysis

After choking away Game 3, the Rockets’ young core was standing on the edge of a cliff. Another loss would send the team packing and potentially break up the young core.

Houston responded with a comfortable Game 4 victory and led 96-87 with 1:32 remaining in the fourth quarter of Game 5. Concern creeped in when Los Angeles scored six straight points to make it a one-possession game with 22 seconds left, but the Rockets learned from their previous meltdown and managed to close out the contest with a win.

Jabari Smith Jr. led his team in scoring with 22 points, and the former third overall pick is now averaging 19.2 points per game this series while shooting 40% from beyond the arc. The rest of the Rockets have struggled mightily to knock down triples, so they desperately need Smith Jr. to remain an efficient high-volume shooter.

Meanwhile, Austin Reaves suited up for the first time since April 2. He went 4-for-16 from the field but secured 13 free throw attempts and dished out six assists. His knack for drawing fouls is extremely helpful against a physical Rockets defense that does not shy away from contact.

Luke Kennard has only scored eight total points over the past two games despite logging 63 minutes. Credit to Houston for adjusting after Kennard’s scorching hot start to the series. If there is anyone who knows how to get a sharpshooter back on track, it’s Lakers head coach JJ Redick.

The best bet for Game 6 is taking Amen Thompson to record at least two steals. He’s an elite defender who is playing over 40 minutes per game, and the Lakers are loose with the basketball and a high-turnover team. Overall, Thompson has produced 1, 1, 3, 3, and 4 steals this series.

Lakers vs. Rockets Best Bet, Pick & Prediction

Best Bet: Amen Thompson Over 1.5 Steals (-122)
Score Prediction: Rockets 102, Lakers 101
