Magic vs. Pistons 2026 NBA Playoffs Series Preview, Picks, Odds
The No. 8-seeded Magic face the daunting task of a healthy No. 1-seeded Pistons squad to begin their playoff journey. Orlando got some key rest for its starters in the Friday night blowout Play-In Tournament win over the Hornets, but a 62-win Detroit squad that handed them a pair of double-digit losses in the regular season now awaits.
Magic vs. Pistons Series Betting Analysis
The Magic took another step forward in the 2025-2026 season, making a four-win improvement over the previous campaign’s 41-41 mark. Orlando was at its best at home by far, posting a 26-15 mark in that split, and they arguably could have reached the 50-win threshold on the season had star wing Franz Wagner not missed 48 games due to injury. However, Paolo Banchero and offseason arrival Desmond Bane were critical in keeping the Magic afloat throughout their teammate’s extended absence, while 2023 first-round pick Anthony Black put forth a career-best season with averages of 15.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.4 steals over 64 games.
The Pistons made an even more exponential leap, going from a solid 44-38 record and No. 6 seed in the 2024-25 season to a 60-22 mark and Eastern Conference pace-setter this past campaign. Cade Cunningham followed up his breakout 2024-25 campaign with another strong across-the-board showing which included a slight scoring dip to 23.9 points largely offset by a career-best 9.9 assists. Cunningham’s work on the opposite end of the floor also saw a boost, as he averaged a career-best 1.4 steals. Jalen Duren stepped up as the team’s clear No. 2 option and proved capable of spearheading the squad when Cunningham missed time with an assortment of injuries, churning out a career-high 19.5 points while pulling down double-digit boards (10.5 RPG) for the third straight season.
The Pistons prevailed in the four-game regular-season series, with Orlando’s one win coming by just three points, albeit in the Motor City. Meanwhile, Detroit recorded wins of 19, 14 and 16 points.
The only injury of note for the Magic is reserve forward Jonathan Isaac, who missed Friday’s win over the Hornets with a knee injury and is considered questionable for Game 1 against Detroit. The Pistons are expected to enter the series with a clean bill of health.
The 76ers are 17-16 ATS as an underdog since the start of the regular season, while the Pistons were just 31-36 against the number as a favorite.
