Miami Heat vs. Charlotte Hornets Game Preview, Picks & Odds for April, 14, 2026

The 2026 NBA Play-In Tournament begins with a clash between the Miami Heat and Charlotte Hornets. The loser is eliminated from the postseason, while the winner advances to face either the Philadelphia 76ers or Orlando Magic.

Miami has won three of four matchups against Charlotte this season, but two of those victories came before the Hornets hit their stride in December.

Heat vs. Hornets Betting Analysis

Although Miami is typically built on defense, the team ranks fourth in offensive rating and 21st in defensive rating since the All-Star break. Injuries and opponent shooting luck definitely contributed to the Heat’s defensive woes, but they also surrendered too many shots inside the paint and from the corners.

Kel’el Ware is a name to monitor. The sophomore dominates the glass, stretches the court, and gives Miami another interior defensive presence next to Adebayo. Perhaps the Heat run their double-big lineup more often than usual? Miami has only surrendered 110.1 points per 100 possessions this season when Adebayo and Ware share the court, per Cleaning the Glass

Meanwhile, the Hornets lead the NBA in offensive rating and net rating since December 21. Charlotte attempts a ton of three pointers and knocks them down at a very efficient rate, so it’s difficult for opponents to keep up when the Hornets are in a rhythm. They also have many players capable of creating off the dribble, which means defenses cannot get stops by focusing on one or two players. Whether Charlotte’s defense holds up against postseason competition will determine how far this young squad advances.

As for the best bet in this matchup, it’s taking Coby White to score at least 13 points. Quick pick-and-roll scorers have given the Heat problems, and White certainly qualifies. He’s a dynamic on-ball scorer who also thrives on catch-and-shoot jumpers. White should be able to generate great looks with LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller, Kon Knueppel, and Miles Bridges commanding so much attention.

Since being traded to the Hornets at the deadline, White has scored at least 13 points in 13 of 21 games (61.9%), including a pair of contests against Miami.
