Friday’s Anytime Goal Scorer Picks
- Jake Guentzel
- Tomas Hertl
- Zach Hyman
- Chris Kreider
Jake Guentzel Anytime Goal Scorer
Since the start of the playoffs, the Tampa Bay Lightning front line have fallen into a slump, ranking dead last in Expected Goals For in All Situations. While Jake Guentzel has struggled to find the back of the net during that span, he has still been aggressive in his efforts of pressuring the net, averaging four Shots on Goal per game.
Heading into Friday night’s contest against the Montreal Canadiens, expect Guentzel to round back into dominant form by taking advantage of a back line who ranks well below league average in Expected Goals Against in All Situations and in 5-on-5 Play. With the Canadiens incapable of face guarding, Guentzel will be able to generate a heavier volume of shot attempts in front of the net, increasing his chances of scoring.
Tomas Hertl Anytime Goal Scorer
Like the Lightning, the Vegas Golden Knights front line have also been dealing with some harsh regression, falling to the middle of the board in Expected Goals For. Even with his linemates in the midst of a cold stretch of play, Tomas Hertl has still been able to keep them competitive in their contests, averaging 0.43 Expected Goals and 2.46 Shots on Goal per game.
Fortunately for Hertl, he will be able to continue to light the lamp against the Utah Mammoth by exploiting a back line who ranks well below league average in Expected Goals Against From High Danger Shots. With the Mammoth struggling to protect their net, the width of Hertl’s shooting lanes will widen, improving the quality of his Shots on Goal.
Zach Hyman Anytime Goal Scorer
While Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl hog the spotlight, Zach Hyman has quietly been the Edmonton Oilers most consistent source of scoring production, averaging 0.61 Expected Goals and 2.74 Shots on Goal per game. Their combined production has turned the Oilers front line into an explosive unit capable of putting up goals on the board in a flash, ranking in the top-5 in Expected Goals For in 5-on-5 Play.
In a favorable matchup against the Anaheim Ducks, Hyman will be able to pressure the net at a more consistent rate by attacking a back line who resides near the bottom of the board in Expected Goals Against in All Situations. For some more exposure, escalator bet Hyman’s Anytime Goal Scorer prop by placing smaller wagers on his alternate totals.
Chris Kreider Anytime Goal Scorer
In his first year with Anaheim, Chris Kreider has helped spark the Ducks turnaround on offense, averaging 0.34 Expected Goals per game. With Kreider pulling defensive attention towards him, he has helped free up more space for his linemates, contributing to an offense who ranks third in Expected Goals For in All Situations.
With the Oilers struggling in coverage per their below league average mark in Expected Goals Against in 5-on-5 Play, Kreider will be able to convert more of his shot attempts into Shots on Goal when he weaves the puck through their back line. When in front of the crease, expect Kreider to score, beating Connor Ingram who has fallen back down to reality since the start of the playoffs by averaging over four Goals Against per game.
