Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Philadelphia Flyers Game 6 Preview, Picks & Odds for Wednesday, April 29, 2026

After ranking well below league average in most offensive metrics throughout the regular season, the Philadelphia Flyers were able to round back into competitive form in the playoffs by consistently attacking the Pittsburgh Penguins net. Their resurgence helped them get off to a hot start, jumping to a 3-0 series lead.

Unfortunately for the Flyers, their front line has fallen hard back down to reality, making it hard for them to match the Penguins output. After two straight losses,  momentum has tilted towards Pittsburgh’s side, creating some serious pressure on the Flyers to close this out in game six. In order to do so, their defense will need to continue to play at a high level and keep the score close enough for them to remain competitive.

Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Philadelphia Flyers Betting Analysis

Just when it looked like the Flyers were going to sweep the Penguins, their front line has harshly regressed, mirroring their regular season performance where they ranked near the bottom of the board in Expected Goals For in All Situations. Even with Porter Martone injecting some life into their offense, his linemates were unable to exploit the extra space his gravity provides, generating just 1.72 Expected Goals in game five.

To make matters worse for Philadelphia, Pittsburgh’s back line have been able to find their footing, shooting up to the top half of the board in Expected Goals Against. With the Penguins smothering their shot attempts, Arturs Silvos has been able to consistently wall them off, averaging 2.00 Goals Against per game and a .920 Save Percentage.

Speaking of Expected Goals Against, the Flyers back line have been one of the more efficient units in the league, ranking fourth in Expected Goals Against in All Situations and third in 5-on-5 Play. With their back line masking their struggles on offense, the Flyers are able to reduce the amount of negative variance in their contests, increasing their chances of winning.

Dan Vladar has also given the Flyers the protection they need to avoid playing in highly volatile contests, averaging 2.42 Goals Against per game throughout the regular season. Even with wear and tear rearing its ugly head, Vladar has been able to side step regression, conceding just 2.03 Goals Against five games into the playoffs while generating a .906 Save Percentage.

Heading into Wednesday night, expect both back lines to continue to thrive, forcing each other into taking low quality Shots on Goal to no avail with Vladar and Silvos patrolling their net. With scoring opportunities coming at a premium, game six will be a defensive slugfest, keeping the score under the full game total.
