Not only did Vanderbilt cash our best bet on Saturday, but the Commodores also managed to rattle off the upset in their semi final matchup against Florida and are now just one win away from hoisting the SEC Conference Championship. Standing in their way is Arkansas who are fresh off an overtime thriller, needing all 45 minutes to squeak out the win against Ole Miss.

After going into the locker room with a 13 point lead at the end of the first half, Vanderbilt had no issue with holding onto it, beating the Florida Gators 91-74. Florida’s inability to create disruptions made it easier for the Commodores to break away from their coverage and capitalize on their scoring opportunities to help pull away on the scoreboard.

On the other side of the bracket, Arkansas found themselves in a heated battle until the final whistle, needing overtime to put away Ole Miss in what was a high scoring affair. Meleek Thomas played a major role in their win on Saturday, scoring 29 points while playing in all 45 minutes. Darius Acuff Jr’s versatility was also on full display, finishing the contest with 24 points, five rebounds, and seven assists.

Unfortunately for the Razorbacks, negative regression is looming large over their offense in the SEC Conference Championship as they face off against a defense who excels in coverage per their top-30 mark in adjusted defensive rating. The Commodores also create havoc at a very high rate, residing near the top of the board in steal percentage and in block percentage.

With the Razorbacks offense expected to fall hard back down to reality against the Commodores, they will find themselves quickly behind on the scoreboard with little hope of digging out of their hole. Especially with wear and tear potentially creeping in after a gauntlet against the Rebels, affecting the Razorbacks’ tempo which will make it easier for the Commodores to match their pace when shifting their coverage.

To make matters worse for Arkansas, their defense has struggled to give them the production they need to be a well rounded contender, ranking outside the top-150 in effective field goal percentage, turnover percentage, and in defensive rebound percentage. Their inability to protect the middle will allow the Commodores to generate a higher volume of shots near the rim, increasing their chances of creating a killshot to apply some serious pressure on the Razorbacks.

With clear advantages on both sides of the court, Vanderbilt is in a great position to secure the win and cover the spread in the process.
