This team hopes to rebound from a poor season (67-95) and it could very well happen if some of their young prospects show up and deliver. Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Lourdes Gurriel Jr., Bo Bichette, Cavan Biggio and Danny Jansen represent the future of the franchise. The Blue Jays need for the youngsters to produce in 2020, and help Toronto regain respect from others in the AL East division. Righthander Nate Pearson is another young prospect who could have a breakout season. Toronto has rebuilt its pitching staff, adding Hyun-Jin Ryu, Tanner Roark and Chase Anderson to the rotation. Ken Giles is the closer. First baseman Travis Shaw and outfielder Randal Grichuk are a pair of veterans who give the lineup extra punch. The Blue Jays are moving in the right direction, but it may be another year before they a return to plsying competitive baseball.

Toronto Blue Jays Roster 2021 Lookout

The era of Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion are long gone, and they are also holding a lot of weight from those days. Troy Tulowitzki is still on the roster, but has not played due to injuries. Kendrys Morales is a bit over the hill, but Justin Smoak has found himself in a good spot. You have some other veterans like Russell Martin, Curtis Granderson, and Yangervis Solarte on the team who are playing great ball right now. Josh Donaldson is the star right now, but is DL prone, and is also a free agent at the end of the year. We would not be surprised to see J.A. Happ shipped to a contender this year, and that leaves this rotation to be fairly lackluster. Marcus Stroman and Aaron Sanchez are young arms, but don’t quite have the juice to lead a rotation. The bright spot in Toronto is Vladimir Guerrero Jr whenever he gets called up.

The 2018 Blue Jays are currently stuck between massive injury blows and when to call-up talent in the pipeline. This isn't a bad spot for the team to be in, but when you compete in the AL East, you have to sort through information quickly. The 2018 was bound to come with some tamed expectations, due to the losses of key contributors in Josh Donaldson and Troy Tulowitzki. The team also had to account for losing Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion to free agency. The current roster is heavy in talent, which says a lot about the team's ability to rebound after big losses. One of the key off-season acquisitions was Curtis Granderson. While Granderson doesn't produce at the clip of the past, he still can contribute in situational plays and instances. The descriptive for Granderson can be stated for just about any player on the team. Their production might be decreased when spread across career numbers, but they all still have marginal levels of impact. The current depth also allows the team to afford rest to its older players, which is a nice advantage to own. All eyes are on the future for a Toronto team that has a few bright stars shining in the lower levels of the organization. Baseball's top prospect, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., currently resides with the Blue Jays minor league system. He is raking at levels higher than expected and his numbers continue to impress scouts at the lower levels. The Blue Jays are doing everything in their power to ensure he gains the proper tangibles before he makes his mark at the major league level. Dante Bichette Jr. is another younger talent that is poised for a breakthrough. The credit is due to the organization and their management of these younger talents. The team could have called the 2018 season a wash and forced these players into their respective roles at the professional ranks. A little more seasoning and these two perennial All-Stars will make a huge impact for years to come. The team already has two of their younger prospects on the big stage in Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Teoscar Hernandez. Both players are being slowly worked into the lineup, often playing at a game on, game off clip. This is to ease their transition into the big leagues. The team is being cautious to be sure not to induce high levels of usage with nothing to gain from doing so, which is important to gaining the proper roster to structure for the future.
