FanDuel Named Official Sports Betting Partner of MLB, Continuing U.S. Dominance

Within a month of MLB’s Opening Day, the league has taken on FanDuel as a new official sports betting partner in North America. FanDuel has been an authorized gaming operator of the MLB since 2019.

FanDuel to Use MLB Branding Across Platforms

This new partnership allows FanDuel to use official MLB branding across its digital platforms such as FanDuel Sportsbook, Daily Fantasy Sports, and FanDuel Faceoff. Through this, FanDuel will seek to combine the MLB viewing and sports wagering experience through streaming MLB.TV’s Free Game of the Day through its FanDuel Sportsbook app and FanDuel+. Users will be able to bet and watch all in one place.

“Our team is eager to showcase FanDuel in nationally broadcast MLB games and help enhance game narratives and bring America’s Pastime directly into our mobile app and OTT platform for fans to watch and wager,” said Christian Genetski, President of FanDuel. “We’re also very excited about the opportunity to work together with MLB on new betting product innovations that will give customers the opportunity to enhance their experience on every pitch from March until October.”

The press release also stated that the two groups would like to use this partnership as an opportunity to collaborate with other sponsors of the league, with a goal to “drive deeper fan engagement.”

MLB Doubles Down on Responsible Gambling

“FanDuel has been an industry leader in innovative fan engagement opportunities while also reminding them of the importance of doing it responsibly,” said Kenny Gersh, MLB Executive Vice President of Media & Business Development. “These key priorities of unique fan engagement and responsible gambling align with our focus from the league level and make FanDuel a natural partner to collaborate with as an Official Sports Betting Partner.”

Both the MLB and FanDuel pledged to drive greater advocacy and awareness surrounding responsible gambling. The MLB is already a partner of the American Gaming Association’s Have A Game Plan.® Bet Responsibly.™ campaign and the National Council on Problem Gambling.

FanDuel Leads All US Sportsbooks in Revenue Metrics

Over 2022, and in the first two months of 2023, FanDuel has separated itself as the industry leader in sports betting.

According to its Preliminary 2022 Results presentation, FanDuel is the number one sportsbook in 15 of the 18 states that sports betting is live in. Since September 2022, it has grown its market share of the sports betting industry from 42% to 50% and its market share of the iGaming market from 19% to 21%.

FanDuel also boasted a record number of bets during this year’s Super Bowl, accepting roughly 50,000 bets per minute and averaging 2 million active users on its platform throughout the game.

If there was still any doubt, the Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC) just released their January revenue report and FanDuel dominated the competition. Ohio sports bettors wagered $494.1 million with FanDuel Ohio. With this, FanDuel generated more online sports betting gross gaming revenue than 15 other competitors combined.

As FanDuel readies to launch in Massachusetts on March 10, they are currently the only sportsbook offering a bonus for users before sports betting even launches. Check out our FanDuel Massachusetts page for more information.
