FanDuel Sportsbook Coming to New York Friday, July 19
Sports betting is legal in New York at the state’s four commercial casinos located in Upstate New York. Per compacts with the state, tribal casinos are also eligible to offer sports betting at their casinos. New York residents got some good news today as they are learning that they will be able to place legal sports bets as soon as this week in their home state. FanDuel has announced that they will be opening their sportsbook at Tioga Downs Casino Resort on Friday, July 19.

FanDuel Sportsbook Grand Opening
The FanDuel Sportsbook at Tioga Downs Casino Resort will be opening Friday, July 19th at 2:30 PM. Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo (District 123) will be making the ceremonial first bet. Afterward, consumers can begin placing bets of their own. A soft-launch is expected to begin on Wednesday, July 17th, before the official opening on July 19th as provided via email from Kevin Hennessy at FanDuel.com.
This is an ideal time for any sportsbook to launch. It gives the sportsbook, as well as its employees, time to get ready for the upcoming NFL and NCAAF seasons, the busiest time of the year for sportsbooks. In the month leading up to the start of the NCAAF season, bettors still have plenty of action to bet on, such as MLB, MLS, PGA events and much more.
What FanDuel Sportsbook at Tioga Downs Will Look Like

– Eight betting windows
– 27 video displays
– Large video wall display
– 14 self-service betting kiosks
– 12 lounge seats
– Seven high table tops
As for betting options, bettors can expect the same options and odds available to them at Tioga Downs as any other FanDuel Sportsbook, both retail and online. However, per New York gaming regulations, betting on collegiate team located in New York is prohibited. This includes major collegiate teams like Army, Buffalo, Cornell, Hofstra, St. Johns, and Syracuse.
Will FanDuel Sportsbook Draw Bettors From New Jersey
The launch of FanDuel Sportsbook at Tioga Downs is a big step for New York bettors. However, don’t expect it to draw too many bettors from New York City. Tioga Downs is still about three hours away from New York City. While some may take the occasional weekend trip upstate to Tioga Downs to take in some races and make some bets at the FanDuel Sportsbook, nearly all of the bettors located in New York City are going to continue to travel the short distance to New Jersey to place their daily bets.
FanDuel Sportsbook at Tioga Downs may not attract too many bettors from New York City, but it will be a big asset for a number of cities in the area, such as Ithaca and Binghamton.
FanDuel Mobile Sports Betting
FanDuel Sportsbook is already mobile in New Jersey and is king in the Garden State. FanDuel is already in Pennsylvania through its partnership with Valley Forge Casino. Pennsylvania residents are still waiting for FanDuel Sportsbook to make its mobile launch in the state, which could be any day now. New York residents aren’t as lucky as their New Jersey and Pennsylvania neighbors. New York went another session without passing mobile sports betting in the state. Governor Andrew Cuomo remains insistent on the idea that a constitutional amendment is needed in order to bring mobile sports betting to New York, despite a number of layers and lawmakers suggesting otherwise. If/when New York finally embraces legal mobile betting, FanDuel Sportsbook at Tioga Downs will be in a position to be one of the biggest mobile operators in the state.
