MLS Anytime Goal Scoring Picks, Odds, Predictions for Wednesday, April 22, 2026

Midweek matches in MLS tend to be more unpredictable than their weekend counterparts — teams are typically running on short rest and sometimes rotating key players. Predicting goalscorers can be challenging in part because of those factors, but we have our eye on three who may have Wednesday goals inside of them.

Wednesday’s Best Anytime Goalscorers

  • Evander, FC Cincinnati
  • Pep Biel, Charlotte FC
  • Timo Werner, San Jose Earthquakes

Evander, FC Cincinnati

It took him a while, but FC Cincinnati’s talented midfielder stepped up to the spot and scored his first goal of the season in the team’s 3-3 affair with Chicago Fire FC on Saturday, bringing them down from 3-1 to draw. His 79th-minute PK closed the gap, and seven minutes later, hit a free kick to a dangerous spot in the box, engineering an own goal to bring FCC level.

The Brazilian sensation is yet to technically bag a goal from open play this season, and NYCFC’s not the easiest opponent, but there have been at least three goals scored in all but one NYCFC home match this season. Yankee Stadium’s narrow pitch means that midfield play is naturally more compressed, and Evander’s especially good in moving the ball through the midfield. A give-and-go involving one of his teammates on the top could be one of several goals in this match’s highlight reel.

Pep Biel, Charlotte FC

Orlando had a bit of a moral victory last weekend in that it only lost 1-0, but the Eastern cellar dwellers are giving up an average of just over three goals a match. In the meantime, Charlotte’s third in the East and scoring nearly two goals a match.

Pep Biel leads the team with seven goal contributions in the season, putting in four goals and adding three assists. Given the relative strengths and weaknesses of the teams in this match, it’s likely that goals will be scored, and it’s likely that the visitors will score the bulk of them. Look for Charlotte’s Spanish catalyst to get on the scoresheet and further bolster his claim to All-Star status — which, given that Charlotte’s hosting this year’s All-Star Game and his coach is making squad selections, is all but guaranteed.

Timo Werner, San Jose Earthquakes

Blossoming SuperDraft selection Ousseni Bouda scored a brace to pace the Quakes in their shocking 4-1 dismantling of LAFC on Sunday, but it didn’t escape attention that Werner finally got his first goal in MLS to add to his team’s tally. Though Werner had recent hard-luck years in the Bundesliga and Premier League, head coach Bruce Arena secured Werner in the offseason thinking he’d get a dependable striker with the tools to score in MLS to replace Chicho Arango and Josef Martinez.

Austin FC comes to the Bay Area on Wednesday after playing Toronto to a 3-3 draw, giving up its sixth goal of the season after the 75th-minute mark to turn a needed win into its fourth draw of the young season. Verde only have one win this year – a 1-0 home victory over D.C. United — and even though Brad Stuver’s one of the league’s best goalkeepers, Werner is the type of forward that can overpower Austin’s defense, especially in a match’s final frames. Even if Werner rotates out of the starting lineup, Arena will want to make sure to give Werner a chance to build on Sunday’s goal and get into a groove.
