Toronto Raptors vs. Cleveland Cavaliers Game 1 Preview, Picks & Odds for Saturday, April 18, 2026

The NBA playoffs open in earnest with a full Saturday slate beginning with Game 1 between the No. 5 Toronto Raptors and host No. 4 Cleveland Cavaliers.

These teams haven’t played since December, when Toronto took the third of three meetings in the NBA Cup format. Toronto has notably struggled against the top teams in the Eastern Conference this season, but is 3-0 against Cleveland, yet the Raptors are sizable underdogs in Game 1 and in the series.

Cleveland enters these playoffs with a checkered playoff history over the past few years, having been knocked out of the postseason by the Knicks and Celtics the past two seasons in unceremonious fashion.

The Cavs traded Darius Garland for James Harden in February and got Max Strus back from a long injury layoff to get their full complement of players by the end of the season. Jaylon Tyson has been a breakout role player for Cleveland as well.

Toronto has a slew of big wings under first-year coach Darko Rajakovic and finished with the fifth-best defensive rating in the NBA. Scottie Barnes is one of the top individual defenders in basketball and Brandon Ingram has been the main source of offense for the Raptors.

Raptors vs. Cavaliers Betting Analysis

Both teams should have some advantages to press in this matchup. The Cavs don’t have a ton of wing defenders to throw at Ingram, Barnes, and RJ Barrett other than Evan Mobley. On the other side of the ball, the Raptors will struggle to contain Harden and his new favorite pick-and-roll partner, Jarrett Allen.

We could see some high-scoring games in this series, but likely not in Game 1 since it happens to tip at 1:10 p.m. ET on Saturday, and early starts are notoriously slower and lower scoring.

Cleveland’s offense was explosive last year under new coach Kenny Atkinson but has slowed down this season and the Cavs are 24-17 (59%) to the Under at home. The Cavs biggest defensive weakness is guarding the 3-point line, but Toronto is bottom 10 in terms of 3-point shooting and frequency.

Toronto went Under in 61% of games this season and in 66% of road games. The Raptors also trended Under when given extra rest and when listed as a road dog (15-7 to the Under).

The Raptors were one of the least efficient offenses in the NBA when playing the halfcourt, as they depended on turnovers and offensive rebounds to generate extra possessions. Cleveland ranks seventh in AST:TOV ratio on the season and fifth since acquiring Harden, who also tends to slow the pace of play with his methodical attack.

Raptors vs. Cavaliers Best Bet, Pick & Prediction

The Under 219.5 at -110 is the best bet for Game 1 of Cleveland and Toronto.

Best Bet: Under 219.5 (-110)
Score Prediction
: Cleveland 112, Toronto 103

With Raptors point guard Immanuel Quickley (hamstring) likely out or playing at less than full strength, we should see more Jamal Shead and more defense over offense. This may seem like a low total compared to the regular season, but at 219.5 points, it’s worth taking the Under in this playoff opener.
